Well, good for you then! *pats Krans J. Hopeson, Minister for Idiocy (Zaphodista) on the head*

Sorry, Willem. Will stop.
*starts twiddling on his clarinet and learning whatever it Shee wants him to learn*

You play the scale. Go on, do it. Now, you play the notes in that scale in whatever order you want them. Don't go out of the scale; it sounds awful! Using C major isn't a good one (really should be a blues scale--they differ like major/minor, in which notes are half steps off from the major). Get some riffs going (heh heh, since you can't hear *me* (not that I'm any good... terrible in fact... but I understand the concepts ), go listen to some jazz music by Charlie Parker or Dizzy Gillespie and pay attention to their improv and reuse their riffs)...
The biggest rule is:
Be loose. If you like something, repeat it. Don't play classical rhythms! (Well, you can, but if you launch into Weber it wouldn't be exactly improv, would it?...)

*plays, badly*
Ah, I see.
*bes slightly perturbed by the lack of music this ensueues*
*likes his printed music*

I had the idea Njan was the expert here, and now *you're* trying to teach *him*, Shee?
You Are Loved, Njan!
the Shee Posted Jan 12, 2002
Two totally different styles... I get the feeling he is an amazing clasical player, but I've done jazz and he hasn't....
It didn't sound *that* bad, Njan...
You Are Loved, Njan!

Actually, I have been "taught" a little jazz playing... one of my clarinet teachers was a jazz clarinettist / guitarrist (he taught Thom Yorke, of Radiohead fame, guitar)... and I've studied under a classical / jazz / contemporary composer whose name I can't remember, but still. I'm a classical player rather than a jazz player.
(I never said I could remember any of the tuition)
...
thankyou. *bows*

*deliberately makes no comment on the use of 'player'...*
*remembers this is what her friends teased her about*
Rock on, Njan!

*demurely*
Hmm...?
There are two different meanings of 'player' (duh)... When I said "I'm a player" they deliberately misunderstood me because it is so far from my personality type. And wouldn't let it drop. Rather rude, really...

... aww.
That's a meaning I've never heard actually used, but I think I kinda vaguely know what you mean. I'd say "That's an americanisation, so...", but I'm not quite sure if you're in america or not.
You Are Loved, Njan!
the Shee Posted Jan 13, 2002
Yes American... Unfortunately .
I'm trying to come up with a synonym, but arising completely blank... Runs around/lays around. Which is most definitely *not* me. Which is why they tease me.
I suppose the "duh" wasn't warranted, then, was it? I was afraid of it being completely obvious, and then saying something like that would need the "duh". But it didn't... I didn't realise it was an Americanism... Learn something new every day.

aww.
Come and join us in england. It's much better, because... well... it rains. Yeah.
I know what it means. :p... both of those verbs are americanisms as well, though.. the first one I'd never heard, the second I had.
Like the english word "shag", which no-one in america (seemingly) realised had a meaning that they weren't cogniscant with.

I knew that! When the next door neighbor had a 10-year-old niece from England she was completely shocked at "Austin Powers: the Spy Who Shagged Me"!
Loose women .
