I must admit I've never seen any of those! Wow! Sounds brilliant! Have you seen any of them in rivers? Are they the type you have to pay to use? (Do you get them in the US?) And more importantly, do the calculators work?

Well...I've never heard of anyone having to pay to use a shopping trolly around here...'course, I live in the southern US....can't speak for the "Yankees"!
I've never seen a "high tech" one in a river.....but the river is a favorite gathering place for the "standard" ones around here(actually, drainage ditches are more popular!)
And yes...the calculators work! They are weather proof and solar powered! What's wild is to get one with the calculator, cup holder AND a map of the stores' floorplan!.....Looks like an airplane console on a grogery cart!LOL

I am VERY impressed with that technology then!
As for the "paying" bit, you don't really "pay" - you just have your £1 coin in the trolley for safe keeping, and it is returned to you when you take your trolley back and clip it to the others. It works very well - unless you don't have a £1 coin.
I don't actually use trolleys - I just bung verything in my bag and cycle back with my shopping.

AAHH! I think I understand, now!......They actually allow you to take the trollys home!?
Would never happen here! That would get you "jail time"!LOL

Strictly they don't allow you - the idea is, unless you return your trolley, your £1 is held hostage.

Around here, the customer would let you keep your £1!
"This suckers' goin' home with me! I paid good money for it!"

Well, I don't really approve of them as it means more hassle, and having to remember a £1 coin.. But if you come over to the UK soon, you may see a supermarket with the system in place.
It only seems to be the smaller stores in the smaller chains that bother.

Small stores here, don't have them. Large stores just use the loss as a tax write off, I suppose!
I would dearly love to make the H2G2 Anniversary party.....but I don't think we'll make it.
If I had money in hand...right now...I don't think we'd ever get passports in time. That is the best excuse for going to the UK I've ever had.(that, and curiosity)

That's a shame - I would have loved to have met you both! Well, maybe next time, eh? If you get things a little more organised, who knows? Still, never fear, we'll tell you all about it.

And if you do ever head over to the UK - you know that there'll probably be a meeting in your honour!

We would be quite honored......and quite undeserving!

I'm sure you've got lots of exciting points - you're too modest.
Otherwise, why would Monsy hang around you so much, hey?
I'm convinced you're both great people. As for me, I wouldn't say I'm devastatingly exciting as I've never actually achieved anything specific...

Achievment does not make personality.....personality makes achievement. Personality is the more important aspect.......keep that in mind!
What is the historic day on the Isle of Wight?

But do I have personality? That's what a fundamental question is. Personality is not a constant, but changes in the eye of the beholder and with circumstances.
As for the Historic day for the Isle of Wight - today is the first day an Approved Entry has been about the Isle of Wight - my Yaverland one.
