There's NOTHING like a good back-scratch ...

On that note, if you feel some minor tremors and shifts in the planetary orbit this week-end, "Blame Canada". Monday is our Thanksgiving Day, traditionally a family time with immeasureable loads of roast turkey, stuffing, yams, mashed spuds, gravy, etc, etc. Everyone gains nearly as many pounds as over the Christmas season.
And since we occupy half a dozen times zones, expect the disturbances to last a lonnnnnng time.

Never did quite learn the lyrics of that one.
Mind you, I won't be causing any earth tremours myself. As of very early Saturday morning, I'm a bachelor-of-sorts for over a week. Shipping the missus home to her parents, to burn off her remaining vacation days of this year. Just the fact of having an absolutely idle 3-day (and birthday) week-end without an over-seer is a bonus for me as well.

idel 3 day week-end is brilliant! but a birthday in it is a bit less.. for that.
and I'd say it is a safe bet that you won't turn the house into a circus, or make serious changes to the place

I've had quite a number of lone-birthdays, so another is no bother. Having had my own family forget two as I was growing kinda reduced the import of them.
Meanwhile, I am saddened to say that the dancing girl repertoire had to cancel out, ... so it will be a quieter week-end after all.

That's alright, ... Shadow- is always worried about a spiked heel catching his tail. So it's better this way.
Instead, I'll just lounge about languidly (a trick in and of itself), sip a bit of brandy and wander about the 'net.

I've been "single" twice, and so have no interest in the falling-down-drunk stupid stuff. So a mellow and aged Scotch whisky or brandy prove to be very nice for sipping, enjoyment, a mellow 'glow'.
Yeah, I know, I'm ing ancient.
And being mammalian, I can lounge so much easier than you ... No massive tail to keep tumbling me off of the sofa !!!

you have to speak to Bob and Hapi.. they mostly drink but sometimes, very seldom.. they both have this small collection of single malts..
oh..
now I know
that happens almost every year: they go for an afternoon to this specialised whisky shop, chat to the owner for most of the afternoon, and each return with a bill of $$$. Pleased and grinning a bit too wide

I can only assume that they have arranged a fine investment and future education packet each time for the mini-dinos ... That shop does double as an investment firm, right?

like it y does one of the bottles they brought home was almost as old as I am, and it lasted for a year (I did a lot better than that!)
no, the hatchlings won't see any of these current investments..

If bottles are measured against your age, then no, they won't have accrued much value yet. Far too young. But the cut and shape of the glass may be a collectible thingie one day. If the recycling hasn't already been there.

sounded like you just had a good whisky
and if I catch them buying bottles much older than I am I'll make them eat the bottle after it's empty. $$$$ for a bottle! I can still scream out in anger and horror. Mostly because I don't really like it that much, and I probably wouldn't taste the difference with a $$ bottle.

Well, ... I can certainly appreciate the quality and flavour of a 5-year-old versus a 10, 12, 15 or more. In brandies, whiskies, scotch whiskies. But for my oout-of-pocket money, I might reach an extra 20% at the liquor store if if is a very special occassion. If I should ever buy a really aged and special product, it would only be well after a lottery crowd knocked on me door, ... and then to preserve and samply slightly over a great many years.

Now this is my chance to verify Bob's theory!
He claims that bottles less than half full have too much air in them (.. that's the part I agree on) and that aroma, alcohol and more evaporates over the years.. so he claims it's necessary to open and drink a bottle in a year ..
Of course I'm interested in your opinion!

Well my own opinion is that a well seal-able bottle of vintage product should be enjoyed over many years. Ordinary stuff, like gin, rum, vodka, rye whisky, ... They are sold with inferior seals that really will not hold in the 'quality' beyond 72 hours of opening. So you must do what you must do ...
Kinda lik,e any beer or ale ... Once it leaves the shop, it has a maximum shelf life of 48 hours, and then begins to turn ...

yeah, right.
but on the vintage issue: , noted,
I just had a phonecall that I'm expected in hospital this afternoon; nothing serious, certainly not damaging, threatening to anything, but I may be away for a few days.
mm.. well.. don't break down the joint while I'm out?
