please can you change to this?

Biddulph is a Moorland town, close to the Cheshire border. It was originally a mining town but is now proud of its floral displays.

(the original sentence made me think that Biddulph had moved location)

Part of the Peak District is in the Staffordshire Moorlands, and is an area of wild rugged beauty with many dales and of course ‘Peaks’ It was the first of Britain’s National Parks and has many places of interest and history.

Please add
Dovedale A1104418 is particularly well-loved.

I notice that no mention has tet been made of Wolverhampton:

Industry: iron and steel castings, boilers, tubes. machine tools, power plant, vehicles.

St Peter's Church, founded 994 by Wulfruna - sister of King Edgar.

Free Grammar School - founded 1512

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC...

Also, surprised that you haven't mentioned that the county is crossed by Watling Street, Bob smiley - winkeye

Can't recall if you mentioned that the two chief industrial areas are The Potteries and the Black Country.

Hi BigAl (how're you doing?)

Wolverhampton I'm afraid to tell you is not in Staffordshire, (West Midlands I think - as is the Black Country)

We're not including the Potteries, as since a long while back it has not been part of the county of Staffordshire, now the City of Stoke on Trent.

We have included Lichfield though.

I pass on Watling Street (?)

The article still needs a final spit and polish, then hopefully off to the bear pit known as Peer Review.

Hmm. W'Hampton must've been pulled out of Staffs when they re-organised the counties smiley - sadface.

Pity, the address 'Wolverhampton, Staffs' just rolls off the tongue.smiley - doh

Well, all the websites list it as 'Wolverhampton, Staffs, including this one:

... and this is what wiki says about the 'Black Country', so I think it deserves a mention, if only in passing:

'The Black Country lies wholly within the West Midlands County, but was formerly divided between the ancient counties of Staffordshire and Worcestershire'.

Hmm I see what you mean and can understand the confusion

Brewood, pronounced 'Brood' is in South Staffordshire, the little bit that hangs down like a tag.

Post codes are districts according to where the nearest major sorting office is, probably in this instance Wolverhampton, they don't bear any relation to the Geographical county. There's a lot of controversy around this, as people don't take kindly to having their address as something other than where they live.

eg I used to live in a village in South Cheshire and my address had Stoke on Trent in the title.

I could write an article of the vaguaries of the post code lottery?

Estate agents like to draw boundaries according to how they market property, don't get me started on Estate Agents smiley - grr They can be quite 'fanciful' when it comes to describing locations

Well, this site is helpful.

http://www3.shropshire-cc.gov.uk/wolverha.htm

It says 'formerly in Staffordshire'.
But from the plethora of other sites, it seems that most people in W'Hampton would prefer to be in Staffordshire.

I think you should mention it smiley - 2cents

In fact, even that site is a bit schizophrenic.

It says:

'Staffordshire town, 16 miles S of Stafford.'

and then...

'Large Black Country town, originally in Staffordshire'

Hi Big Al

I think that w*k* piece leaves a lot to be desired. How about this better researched article?

'..perhaps I should point out that I was born and bred in Staffordshire'

Well, the reaon I was so convinced that Wolverhampton is in Staffs is that my older brother used to live there and I used to write to him frequently. His address always ended 'Wolverhampton, Staffs'.

As I say, it must've been shifted out with local government reorganisations, but I think it should at least be mentioned - if only to clear up confusionssmiley - 2cents
