Trasveller in Time lost in the labyrinth
"Now I know how the categorisation system works; you get lost down there.
Somewhere on a previous occasion you seemed to have your office on
Top / The Universe / The World of h2g2 / h2g2 Towers / Editorial Room / Mina's Desk < C912 >
The Desk is probably lost too. 'Hey ford, look there is a desk running in the categorisation fields.'
New name ?
'Society Service Desk' (in contrast with 'Single Sign On')"

Oh look, didn't I used to be busy! Abi and I seem to be the only people who had anythying on our desks. I guess you can see who used to do all the hard work - in fact you can see the actual desk here - A874136.
I don't know if the names can be changed, I didn't have much to do with the category system (in fact I think I added a category where it shouldn't be by accident at least once). I'll speak to the h2g2 Eds to see if they want it changed.
And it's given me a great idea of how to change the way I bookmark DNA sites and pages!

Traveller in Time on a chair
"Well, I suppose it should go via Editorial Feedback, but I guess you know a shortcut.
Perhaps drop it on 'Jimster's Desk, if he is still sitting next to you?"

No, he's gone now. All that teasing about his blue tongue scared him off.
I'll have a wander over to their building later on. Even if they do tell me to post on Ed feedback I'll have stretched my legs!

Traveller in Time looking at his own desk
"Remarkable equivalence, or just dull office furniture. Just mine has no top, or better I have hidden it under piles of printout, floppy and other disks, Electro Static Device boxes, manuals product guides. Oh yes also some keyboards and a stray mouse.
Hmm, should run through some more of these Help pages, the whole H2G2-Towers is a bit messy and outdated. Time for some desk hoppings. "

That's an old office I haven't been in for a long time - although my desk doesn't actually look much different these days. There's less paper, but that's only because I had a major filing session recently where I threw out all the old paperwork I didn't need any longer.
I heard recently that sales of paper has increased a huge amount since people work on computers, as they all print out long documents they can't bear to read online!
The days of those little book-sized things they use in Star Trek surely can't be far away. I wouldn't mind reading things on a screen if I could curl up into a comfy position with a book-sized whateveryoucallit.

On the other hand, is that not what 'The Guide' is supposed to be? "

I had to test it on the live site because I was testing something that I can't test on the test server. Very Important Secret Official Business.

Whisky - absolutely not. I'm never bored at work, there's too much to do to get bored. It's part of my job to fiddle about online.
TIT - yes I saw that yesterday. It is very sad news.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
