Hi The Rev,
I remember the first time they changed things to DNA that when I tried logging on I ended up with not just one usernames but two now I have just the one. But I'm not on a PC aka personal computer but a digibox I've been asking lots of questions how will it affect me and others who get on here using a digibox *sigh*
As earlier in the week I did try and log onto the BBC iPlayer message board without success so if it happens there and when the switch over to the new BBC_iD sign on I won't be able to get on here it all to confusing,
I'm not a technical boffin I don't understand why they don't leave things alone.....
I hope I can get back on when it does switch over next year 2010 HELP!

Maybe you should evacuate the shed and take your medications.

Sorry Rev Jack for the delay in getting back to you. Please bear in mind BBC iD is a pan-BBC initiative - h2g2 didn't have anything to do with creating it. I'm affected as much as you are. There's a really useful FAQ page here that might help:
https://id.bbc.co.uk/users/help/#id-help-general
SSO, the old sign-in system, is not being switched off on h2g2 for while, end of Feb 2010. So you don't have to do anything just now. I hope that link is useful. As and when I find out more stuff I'll let you and the community know.
Cheers,
Sam.

Just upgraded my sign-in. Kept everything the same as advised (and I only have the one account to port)
One thing - it didn't like my user name. Specifcally the punctuation :
'
' and told me so with an angry red cross object.
'Okay', says I, and remove the offending marks. Now I'm back on h2g2 and my punctuation is preserved.
So can someone clear this up for me - when we migrate over in the new year does this mean I'll loose my precious dots, dashes and brackets?

not sure if this is the right thread, for info to the eds for the digi and the new signin.
-
but here goes.
-
as a long time user of dig, i am able to explain the way we as the magic link ones where able to acess.h2g2.
-
as both bbc and h2g2, are both monitored, they have a low firewall, and we, as digis where able to acses but no main internet as this was above the active cable firewall.
-
so in a nutshell,as i tryed the signin, on the mbiplayer, after registering on the pc at the cyber. i found i was just froze out.
-
so logically i would say the new signin is above the active firewall. so if you could, in some way get the new bbc_id to the same firewall settings, digi,s could still be around when you change over.
-
but as we are as someone said,in the past( interlopers), i doubt we will matter after feb 2010.
-
some said a we whernt on the pc and internet we, didnt pay to acsess, didnt contribute, wrong, my cable bill is sometimes £50 a month and more.
-
anyway i hope its not on deaf ears and makes sence , jimobob

Hi Jim, sorry we are listening. Just very busy! However, there really is no way that we can 'get the new bbc_id to the same firewall settings'. We don't work on iD - we don't have any influence over that sort of thing.

-
i will still be on, after the change, as i said, i can get on at the cybercafe, and hopefully when i get chance to, at the library. jimbob
