Homeward Bound

Well, the good news is that our offer on the house in Ireland has been accepted. It's just North of Athenry (as in The Fields Of, for Celtic fans out there), a dozen miles or so from Galway City. Fingers crossed the survey comes up clean!
That means I have to head home first thing Friday to sort out my place in England - but I'll be back late on Monday, you'll hardly notice I'm gone .
Have a good weekend, everyone. And fly safely, Spartus.

Mind how you post...

I've been thinking about what, apart from *more articles*, we could ask the TDV gurus to do with the interface - their trouble is that having ironed out all the more obvious glitches, we're left thinking they haven't got any work to do .
First of all, I'd like to be able to "unsubscribe" from a forum. I made the naive mistake of posting on the cannabis forum (just to see what would happen if someone suggested it might not be an entierly good thing) - now it's always at the top of my "recent updates" list, and I have to admit I *don't care* and would like to make it go away.
Secondly, a search option which allowed us to look at all submitted-but-not-yet-edited sites would be great. Partly it would enable us to comment before initial publication - correct factual inaccuracies the editors might miss, that sort of thing. But mostly I'm bored and want to read new stuff, but don't want to invade people's privacy on their works-in-progress.
I like that second idea. Maybe I'll put in on the feedback forum.

Feedback Sought

On a more positive note, I have two articles I'd quite like to submit, but no idea yet whether they might be any good. They're listed below, on Antwerp and the Neutrino, and if anyone has any comments I'd be grateful.

Please, Turnover
Posted Jun 8, 1999
Well, I've had a good look round since getting back. Things haven't changed much. No new entries. I've already ranted over at Floor42, but I'll summarise here for the uninitiated:
The success of the guide relies on lots of people accessing and contributing lots of the time - Jim has said elsewhere that the writing is the essence of this guide, and I couldn't agree more;
People will only visit if they can read new items, and only keep writing if their items are being incorporated (or rejected) reasonably quickly;
These few weeks, in the wake of the TW launch, are the best time we'll ever have to catch people. Once they go, they'll be a long time gone.
So guys, I know there's a whole lot of technical stuff to do, and I've heard the rumours that you're beefing up the editing capacity shortly, but please give us *some* new entries *soon*. By all means ignore my stuff for now - I'll keep coming anyway - but people have to think this site's alive, or it'll be buried.
If people don't have new entries to read, they'll blitz the fora - and then it'll be like a chat room, only slower. Please, don't let that happen.

2-0 to the Golden Boys!
Posted Jun 7, 1999
Well, folks, I'm back. And what a time I've had!
I don't know yet if we found a home, but more importantly I was at Wembley stadium a week ago today (can it really be that long?) to see Watford roar back into the Premiership.
If anyone reading this is from Bolton, I'm sorry. If anyone from Ipswich, I'm even sorrier - after all, in the only reasonable playoff system your team would have been playing Charlton - but it falls to us to take a pasting against all and sundry next season while you (I trust) enjoy more wins than losses, and maybe another crack at promotion. Content yourselves that you have more chance of being up there in 2000-2001 than we do ..... but we wouldn't swap for a minute, as you very well know.
Bring on Manchester United!
