Forgotten Beauty

Alas for the faded bloom,
Chance to shine now past.
A shadow of what once was,
A blight upon the vista.
Not wanted by many nor few,
And yet the gardener tends.
Hoping, waiting, for another year,
To bring its joy again.
Its smell once drew hundredfold,
Its glow etched in their minds.
Now that its brief spark has gone,
Shunned in its time.

Two Minute Warning

Slow siren whines,
Spell over silent street.
Many homes mourning now,
What is never going to be.
Two minutes.
Tearful eyes,
It's a fond farewell.
Last seconds slip away,
Come dark oblivion.
One minute thirty.
Sadness of a species,
Death rattle of nations.
All now despise them,
Wargamers all.
One minute.
No more children,
No more songs.
Goodbye happiness,
Love burnt away.
Thirty seconds.
All look into the sky,
Mourning cobalt blue.
Final prayers on the lips,
Bright flash sweeps away.

Showstopping, no waiting,
Acts put on a parade.
Rubber masks,
Fake skin.
Noon stand-offs,
No win.
Gumshoe plodding,
Crime solving super-sleuth.
Cardboard houses,
Cardboard people.
Bright lights,
Rolling cameras.
Action starts,
Become the dream.
