This word is a personal bugbear of mine. It is simple enough to remember but last night, on a TV programme the used the 'Monacoan'. It's an area of the continent that I know well and the people deserve to labelled in the correct way.
anyway end of my rant

Of all the things I've read today that surprised me least. I knew you were the orginiator of that word.

Just as long as nobody strats to try and label the residents around here. It's all to confusing. Me I happily accept being Irish, as I was born on this Island, British, as I was born in the United Kingdom, or Ulsterman, as I was born in the nine counties which make up the ancient Northern Province of Ulster.
I just don't think that people should make such a big deal about it. Me I enjoy the fact that I have dual nationality and passports.

But nationality has always been terribly important to people, and native language, too. I don't know that its something ppl can help...

It the point of having to parade it in the face of the vanquished 310 years ago that gets me though. I was reading a report about the first contentious parade this evening in New York in 1871.

I have a very funny story to explain this word.
I took Eduardo (the Brazilian I was dating but no longer - he's far too young) any way we are still friends and he came to meet my folks for Sunday lunch.
After lunch my father and I were discussing the Protectorate of Cromwell when the question of the order of the monarchs came up. Anyway, we got the order wrong and my dad said
"phone your grumps (nickname for Grandma"
No remember this lady is in her late nineties. I asked her the order of the monarchs of England and she gave them all from the Saxons to the Windsors. Asking me why I wanted to know, Itold her about Eduardo etc. She then said,
"My, you little rapscallion - Is he gorgeous?", at which point the whole room erupted in laughter, Eduardo blushed and grumps hung up.

Just to contextualise the quoate it was 12:30 am in the UK and there had been American's on line. The who cares bit was directed at the 5 or so Brits still at the party as we attacked tha alcohol supply and were having a good time.
BTW Some of my best friends are American's I even was Best man for a wedding in Michighan some years back.
