Welcome - This is me
It's the beginning of Feb, it's been a beautiful crisp sunny sunday and I've just found h2g2. As I signed in I seem to have been almost badgered into saying something about myself, so here goes (I don't mind really)
Graham F is my real first name and my real first initial to my surname.
When I first tried the R4 message boards - which I've been mainlining on for about 2 years or so - I did use funny names but got fed up with that.
Who am I? Nearing retirement, in a small village near Bedford. My wife, Jan is a teacher, I'm a redundant bank manager, redundant school bursar and now a real school site agent.
3 kids - all through uni and out the other side. Oldest - son - geologist in Exeter (just bought a delightful cottage in Bovey Tracey on edge of Dartmoor - lucky lad) engaged to Jules. Middle daughter - event manager near Bath, just bought a delightful cottage in Frome Somerset and engaged to Charlie. Youngest daughter lives in Clapham (pronounced by the up and coming as 'Clahm' to make it sound posher) works in Foreign Office - hush hush - still going out with Gordon - 7 years, now.
So, Jan and I on our own and enjoying walks, hols in Spain etc, hobbies - me watercolour painting and carpet bowls, Jan needlework, reading group and Spanish lessons. We're church going Christians - but don't worry, we're easy going Methodists so we won't try converting you.
As many have said before, 42 is as good an answer as any, and 41 just sounds SO wrong!
Feel strongly about global warming etc - even long before the UN's statements recently. Really drastic measures will have to come to us all, meaning a really severe change in lifestyles before any real improvement can be made. And at 60 what is feared probably won't affect me very much, but I have children and may even have grandchildren one day - we must think about what we are leaving them.
I'm proud of:
A successful marriage - 36 years
We are truly blessed with 3 happy healthy loving and successful children all in long term relationships - two of them are even thinking of getting married! That's a good average for today.
My love when I was a teenager was highboard and springboard diving. I was in Highgate Diving Club in the same training squad as Brian Phelps - remember him? Best competition result was 9th in National Junior Springboard 1961. Now I get vertigo on a 3 metre board!
Future plans - get retired so I have more time to do painting and walking/ Holidays outside school holiday times are something Jan and I long for.
That's about it for now. I'll wait for any responses from you lot and see what you think.
Smile
Graham
