Hello Graham. I have only just read this.
You certainly sound like a really super family. In fact, reading this has made me cry(but as you are now well aware, I am very prone to tears!!).
I was going to ask you, on the sailor thread, a question, but I decided not to as it seemed the wrong place totally to do so! So I shall ask it here! Do you get any 'daily devotionals' on your computer? I get 'Turning Point' from Dr. David Jeremiah. This morning's was very good. But all of them are. I hope you don't mind me asking. I simply wondered because you are a Christian.
I often mention my daughter on the MB. Her name is Emma, and she is my most wonderful friend. She was married to Alex last August, in Lymington. They are both Christians. She is working towards her Masters in Psychology, so is both working and at university. She is all that I have left in life(and Alex ofcourse), so I treasure every moment that I can spend with her. The house move, which I have mentioned on the MB, will mean that I within 20 minutes of her. It will mean so much to me as I adore her.
Well, I have already said far too much! Welcome to h2g2. And thank you for all your very kind wishes to me on the MB.

Hello Polly / Carole
You'll now HAVE to tell me where the Polly comes from.
You sound very lucky, too, with your lovely daughter, Emma; I'm sure you're just as supportive of her and her studies/work/new marriage. Lymington is a lovely place. My ma in law lived at Barton on Sea for the last 20 years or so of her life and was very happy there. jan would take the kids to granny's for a week or two in the school hols when they were young and then I'd join them and we'd go camping at Aldridge Hill near Brockenhurst. Such a lovely party of the world.
I don't get daily devotionals as I'm a bit hesitant - are they sometimes a bit OTT? Whilst I am a Methodist Local (lay) Preacher, I'm not at all evangelical and never force my religion on others. And likewise, I like to chose my own prayers and meditations. This can be limiting of cousre, as I have to search for stuff rather than having it placed before me.
I feel praying can be done any time, anywhere, and in any way - seeing a beautiful flower of landscape or painting are all, for me, prayers as I - to myself - thank God for them.
Having such a lovely, loving family is a most wonderful blessing and I constantly - and I mean that - give thanks for them - even when Ben, my son, and Becky, the middle one, were going through, shall we say, difficult adolescences! Happily, uni sorted both of them out! Jo, the youngest was never a problem - much to the chagrin of the other two - and is very seldom in the dumps. And Jan is truly womderful - even after 36 years marriage, we're still the best of friends.
So, yes, I am blessed, thank God!
Now, I must get back to work - I have a 2 - 3 hour break every morning as I have a 7 o'clock start.
Hope I haven't gone on too much - I probably have - I usually do!

Graham,
I understand what you are saying about devotionals. My father would not have wanted them, although he did always have a 'Golden Bells And Pomegranites' calendar every year. I simply enjoy the messages that really seem to have been written just for me. They do make me stop and think.
I find myself praying throughout the day. I often give thanks for the ordinary birds in the garden that have given me such joy over the years. Or the sky and stars....
Polly? It was a childhood nickname. It is so sweet.
Best wishes,
Carole
