Hi h2g2-ers.
This is just to let you all know that I'm leaving the BBC at the end of July, it's been a long run, time to move on now.
I've been working with people and online communities since 1999 when I had the great pleasure to work with Douglas Adams at The Digital Village, on h2g2.
As many of you will know, h2g2 came to the BBC in early 2000, and acquired me too - as h2g2 Community Editor. After a while I moved on to work on the other BBC online communities, blogs and message boards and so on.
I've really enjoyed the eight years I've spent working at the BBC, but I've been offered a *really* wonderful new job and it's far too good an opportunity to turn down.
So from the BBC point of view this is it for me. I'm off at the end of July, and start my new job in September. I'm taking a month off as I want to give being a slacker a good go!
I'll undoubtedly come back to h2g2 at some point and say hi, I definitely hope to!
Take care everyone, it was the best job ever being h2g2 Community Editor!

Hi GB,
Thanks!
Yes, will do! It'd be nice to come to an h2g2 meet-up as a normal h2g2er!
I'll be back to say hi though - definitely!

First off, the upbeat bit - congrats on the new job and I really do hope everything works out for you.
Secondly, thanks for everything you've done for this site over the years - I'm sure it wouldn't have made it this far without you!
It does seem a little like the end of an era though, you must be one of the last of the pre-rupert staff left in the Beeb (and now I just know you'll come back with a list of names including Jim and Ashley, just to prove me wrong...
Hmmm. One other thing does spring to mind... As soon as that 'ex-staff' badge appears on your page - can we entice you into an Ace badge to keep it company

I'm not really here Posted Jul 1, 2008
You gave me the best job I ever had, and am ever likely to have, and I'll always remember you for that, even if we don't see you online anymore.
Best of luck with your new job, any clues?

Wow! I thought you'd be here for ever! But good luck with the new job. We've not chatted recently as much as we used to, but I hope to see you again, perhaps at a meet.
In fact... should we arrange a meet especially?

Traveller in Time reading similar messages on several places on the site
" in the new job, let us hope the recruiters did their job well .
Just another reason added wanting to join a meet "

Thanks everyone. I thought I'd be here forever too, how weird it is to say goodbye - I've really enjoyed my job at the BBC - and even more so the one at The Digital Village - that one rocked big time!
I'm off to join a Social Media Consultancy in a *very* nice role - and I'm really excited about it! Not long until September now - I've already been out shopping and bought loads of new clothes so I look suitably managerial.

Good luck with your new job, Peta!
'As many of you will know, h2g2 came to the BBC in early 2000'
Can't have been 2000, because it was still h2g2.com when I joined on June 10th that year. By the time that awful 'we'll be back really, really soon' page showed up I was already badly hooked and suffered awful withdrawal symptoms.
A quick search on h2g2 tells me that according to Gnomon, Rupert started on January 25th, 2001 - and Gnomon's usually right.

Thanks!
You're absolutely right Titania! I got it wrong, I knew it was just after the New Year, but wrong year.

So... will there be any* Italics/BBC presence whatsoever left on HooToo?; I saw an Italic in 2005 but dont' think I've seen one since. I guess its treue and they're* just letting us fade away nice and painlessly.

Good luck Peta and remember you have already been to a meet as a mere mortal - the first ever one!
Make sure you keep in touch. I feel like I was there at the beginning!
