About Me
I am an assistant professor of psychology at UCLA (pigeonrat.psych.ucla.edu). Los Angeles is a damned expensive place to live. But I love my research soooo much that I'm willing to put up with smog, long commutes, a small apartment, in what turnes out to be a fabulously beautiful city surrounded by mountains and coastline.
What drew me here was the opportunity to explore a burning issue: What types of representations do animals have and how do they use them in their daily lives? To put it more technically, I study animal cognition and behavior, which involves the study of learning and memory processes, the cognitive processes that underlie spatial and temporal behavior, and whatever else about animal behavior that happens to tickle my fancy. I conduct experiments with rats and pigeons to unlock these secrets.
I also am happily married to my lovely wife, Ronda, have two wonderful cats, and love to read in my spare time.
My favorite authors are Asimov, LeGuin, Tolkien, and (of course) Douglas Adams, and (double of course) myself.
My favorite musical artists are Prince, Erasure, Bach, and Glass.
I also love pizza (miss the NY pizza, though), wine, beer, single malt scotch, and taquila.
