I’m 25/F from Saskatchewan, Canada. I work as a clerk in the public service and sporadically attend university classes towards completing my second BA. My interests are many and varied and as changeable as the wind, so I’m not listing them all here. Some major ones are:
- Linguistics
- Music (playing/singing/listening/learning about)
- Thoughtful science fiction - Gene Wolfe is particularly good
- Theological debate and apologetics (I’m Catholic)
- Writing - mostly fanfiction, just because I’m too lazy to write original work
- Anything that strikes my fancy at any given moment. This is where h2g2 is so dangerous for me, especially the Infinite Improbability Drive. Topics which have fit in this category in the recent past include:
---- The inner workings of music boxes
---- Trying to determine which brand of beer is “right for me”
---- Mathematics and Mathematicians, what they study and why
---- Psychology, psychiatry, mental illnesses and how they are treated
---- propositional logic, linguistic philosophy
---- Epidemiology
---- The political philosophy of income tax (i.e., in a “free country” should the government really have the power to force us to sit down for at least an hour each year and do arithmetic?)
---- acoustic phonetics and the tools used to practice it
---- The physical properties of sound
---- Physics beyond the proton-neutron-and-electron model they teach you in grade 6 -- I'm finding out the hard way that Physics is really, really complicated and difficult. But beautiful.
---- The morality of time travel (ie, if we ever develop the ability to travel backward in time and mess with the timeline (assuming such were possible), do we have a moral obligation to do so? or to refrain from doing so?
Not really sure what else I should put in here. Someday soon when I’m not quite so tired (Friday afternoon and I’m spent) I’ll try to make this a bit more clever-sounding. :)
