Day of Silence

hello all!
tomorrow (april 13th) is apparently going to be a day of slience. i only just found out about it this afternoon...
but X was kind enough to type up the pamphlet for me, so heres what it says......
"Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day of Silence, a national youth movement protesting the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, and their allies. My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is caused by harassment, prejudice, and discrimination. I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward fighting these injustices. Think about the voices you are not hearing today. What are you going to do to end the silence?"
alright, so i am aware that it says national... and that many of us dont live in the states... but i think that if you want to participate then i dont see why not. and i'm sure that even if you dont consider yourself to be a youth anymore you can still participate too.... provided that its not too late where you are.
well... just fyi.
and so you all know, i'm in no way trying to pressure anyone into participating in it.
i havent even decided if i'm going to do it myself. but i wanted to let you know

Good idea to put it in your Journal. I hope you participate, it would be cool if this wasn't just in one country.

hmm, I would join in but work might not like it since my job is to answer phones
does sound like a good idea though

I read about this a couple days ago. Unfortunatly I was reading it on a website that was promoting a chirstian "Day of Truth" which they wanted to follow the Day of Silence and where "christians" spoke out about what they believe to be the evils of homosexuality. That just p***ed me off, don't mean to rain on your parade.
I have also recently learned that a major figure among "ex-gays" lives in my vacinity and operates a big ole clinic which claims to cure homo-SEX-uality through prayer and Jay-zuz.
Better go take my happy pills now...

Cat-Eyes: No..... why.... ? Posted Apr 12, 2005
Well, normally, I might, but today I have to go into Melbourne Uni for a smart-high-schooler thing, and it's probably better if I talk...

Jerms - a Brief flicker and then gone again. Posted Apr 12, 2005
Cool idea; I think I'll try, but I'll probably forget though. And it means I have to write out the pamphlet.
Hey BC, you could try 'prank answering' for a day?
We already have 'wear black on thursdays' happening for the same sort of reason, except it also includes fighting against rape and violence as well. I keep forgetting about that too, but since I always wear black it doesn't really matter. There's a badge you can get to go with it, though, which I also keep forgetting to wear, which is annoying.

rats. thats not fair!
i want a badge... so i can fight against rape and violince too.... but we dont have that here.
but i'll be sure to wear black on thrusdays... although that wont be very noticable as i wear black every day, but at least i wont forget
i'm going to try it too
but i'll probably have to write it on my hand so i dont forget. and i'll have to write out the pamphlet so i can show my teachers... otherwise i'd probably get in trouble for not responding to them in class.
but i'll do my best
and i like the idea of prank answering the phones

I'm not convinced work would appreciate that
Work did once have a compulsory minutes silence for someone or something, I forget what, and I disagreed with that. These things don't mean anything if they are compulsory.

thats true, i agree with you there BC
i think it means more if you can decide to do it yourself.

Well, I'm already gone, I've been talking to my kitten all morning before this was up. And on MSN and here and a whole pile of other places...
But I think the point is that you're making an effort, so adjust it to suit your needs.
