Solo, yet so high?
Websailor Posted Jul 26, 2008
Hello, Everyone,
Has anyone had word about how last night went for MMF Perhaps he was overcome and is lying down in a darkened room. It is rather hot. On second thoughts perhaps the poor soul has had to work today.
*waiting patiently* for news Win lose or draw it matters not, I just want to know if you enjoyed yourself MMF.

I wondered about the same, Webbioe. Maybe he's still tr4ying to get the recording onto YouTube? I've heard it takes the whole bandwidth to do that and can take for hours.

Hi folks,
And thanks for all your support and wishes.
Journal to follow... Mountain of ironing to do (25 shirts!!! so can'''t stop long...
I did video it but it seems dark, although two work colleagues filmed and taped the entire evening so here's hoping...
Simply put, I came unplaced. After a false start I went into the Classical tune, with passion, both Forte and Piano, then the little Jazz number, drawing to the briefest of pauses at the end before starting the hornpipe slowly, then increasing the pace and volume, until reaching the climax!!! Except there wasn't one! . The audience initially started clapping but that petered out until I ended in near (for me on that piece) and earlier than expected and demoralised. Luckily I did receive a thunderous round of applause. Maybe it was all a little highbrow?
It was hot and not the night for boater and tails, and the group song, 'Simply the best' went awfully wrong, yet I was told I was the one trying to hold it together...
Anyway, full story later, time allowing, vid on YouTube at some point, and thanks again... What a week, and where did it go???
Oh! And I raised around £100, and the event raised £5,000, Half our target for the year, so well worth the effort!!!
and all round!!!

the main thing is that you took part - and that you raised a lot of money
But did you have fun too? You didn't mention that.

Hi Sho,
Judging by my head, I enjoyed myself too much!
I almost always enjoy it when I play, but not so often when I play solo. This time was certainly great fun, especially as I knew I had no major It did make it easier...
Here's to DNA and the HooTooers' Band... Who knows?

>> and earlier than expected and demoralised.<<
doesn't exactly sound like a lot of fun.
Sorry to hear you were demoralised by the lack of the audience clapping along, maybe they just stopped so that they could listen better?
Well done to have taken part in the first place!

Oooh, TB I think his work colleagues might take a dim view of that comment
MMF, you did good I am sure. It really wasn't the weather for active participation I think and perhaps they did want to just listen, I know I do.
The event raised £5,000? that's a stunning result for one event. Well done all.
Have a rest after all the domestic stuff, and we will look forward to more later.
Did I get the impression that a strong black might be in order or hair of the instead

Not quite, Webby... I was suffering more from being on my feet for seven hours, for which I needed a few when I finally got home to and the stems from the heat and noise, as there was a LOUD afterwards.
And it was fun, B'El, just that the last piece is my piece and rarely fails, so I had been racking my to work out why it didn't work this time...
Anyway, that was yesterday... I now have only 14 days to go before I have seven days of solid to look forward to...and I may even meet some people I met at the BBC Folk proms, as well as EC and a local friend.
I am just pleased I stepped... No... Leapt out of my comfort zone to do two things I haven't properly done before... Play solo in front of a large crowd, and for that crowd to be work colleagues...
I have to be honest and say I still don't feel competent or confident, but I am more sure of myself and my playing today than I was two days ago... so that is a big Plus!!!

Only half way
Glad you stepped out of your comfort zone. Not an easy thing to do, especially in front of work colleagues, and I am sure you will get some appreciative feedback when you go back to work.
Are you a dark or did they know about your musical talent?

A limited number of people know I play in a band, mainly because sometimes I finish work early on some Saturdays for gigs, but most know absolutely nothing about me and I keep it that way...
So yes, probably a dark
And it will be interesting on the feedback... Especially as I only know a few people who attended. I'll keep you posted.

It was comnplete
If I'd known what I sounded like miked up I'd have played acoustically.
Oh well, you were warned, I guess.
Oh! Mal, the clothes... Tails, £10 from Camden Market, date on the inside pocket? 11/10/37... so . Waistcoat? Made for my Dad by his mother... probably early fifties? Boater> Bought by me 30 years ago from my old employer...
So almost everything , including me!!!

I suspect that acoustically would have been better as poor old vera sounded rather tinny with their sound rig. It's a shame as your playing seemed pretty darn good.

Sho - employed again! Posted Jul 28, 2008
I was going to say the same thing - it's very clear that you can play like the best of 'em.
And I too loved the outfit - I really ought to dig my tails out and wear them more often!
