h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I love the *idea of Christmas, the excitement, the spirit of good will,friends and familly and all that, but every year I have to admit that the only difference between an average boring Sunday afternoon and Christmas day in our household is that there's some presents to open in the morning and, deity be praised, there are no shops open for 24 hours.

The reasen? My lads work in the catering industry, and therefore work over the holidays, and all my friends spend Christmas Day with their famillies. Which is what you do, as a rule.

Which leaves me on my own pretending I don't mind, one end of Kent, and my mum, who cordially loathes Christmas, refuses to acknowledge it atall, and chooses to have a microwave meal of fish and chips and a bottle of Gordons at the other.

In a word... Humbug

You can all come to our place, we usually end up collecting numerous foreign exchange students/friends of friends/anybody else who had nowhere to go/members of different religions, anyway

xmas WAS ok once, but the profiteers have now made it back to being for the rich again to celebrate, a decent prezzie for a few quid, now it's a tenner for a bar of soap, co's it says trade name on it

bah humbug!

We can all celibrate HOGSWATCH stuff the ritual. Happy Hogswatch everyone

I must be tighter than a duck's backside then Prof, because you wouldn't believe what I manage to eke out of a tenner present wise

Having said that, I must admit I do most of my Christmas present shopping in the January Sales.....or cynically wait till The Ungrateful donate their unwanted presents to the local charity shops and snap stuff up then.

I always maintain its the thought that counts anyway. And I'm pretty good at thinking I match people up to presents sucsessfully enough

But- but - traditionally, at Hogswatch it's compulsory enjoyment for Witches to stay at home

Oh well. No change there then, eh?

Hogswatch, no tradition, no pressure, no hassle, no grief, no I have to, no nothing just bliss and the TV beer food and doing just what you want.
