I'm British, and I live in London. I visited Australia when I was seventeen, for Christmas. I still dream about it, the eucalyptus forest where I got bitten by an ant and my entire leg swelled up, the tame Wallabees on Pebble Beach, the view of Sydney Harbour, the creek where we went wading and found flint spear-heads and saw two wedge-tailed eagles, the poor chap dressed as Father Christmas with sweat dripping off his fake beard on a blazing day in a town square. His 'ho ho ho' was more of a pathetic wheeze and he was on his eighth can of Fosters (neat little pyramid of empties under the plastic Rudolph)... I'm coming back for another go the second I've saved the money.
As I write, it's eleven am and raining. Not that the rain is typical, we've been having an unusually hot and dry summer and I for one am glad for a little coolness and damp for once. I'm supposed to be writing a job application letter. If I could procrastinate for a living, I'd be rich as Paul McCartney.
