Welcome to hoo-too (h2g2)
I don't think the popup boxes work with a settop boxs.
Which skin are you using, alabaster, brunel or classic?
My page uses classic but you might not see it properly with your settop box.

Hiya, you doing well to get this far, most don't bother.
I haven't got a clue as to what you can do with your box but I know there are others here using them.
Have a look at BrownFurby's page U151102 , she has loads of links you can try.
I'll have a look round for other box users.

Hello Alan .I have a Bush Internet set-top box (web-browser). Is this the same as a digibox? I saw the message on your space about plain skin. I tried it, but I couldn't see any buttons,so I had to change back. I know some of the limits with my box. It can't do anything with Java sites and can't get BBC chatrooms. Also it works on local phone charges. No time limits ,but if I'm on too long phone bills can be BIG. I did try to get a picture onto My Space but haven't managed it yet. Another problem I can see here is spaces between words sometimes disappear. It did happen on the other message boards but I sorted that out. I type the message in one straight line and sort it into lines to fit the message box afterwards. I cant't do that here as it has automatic lines, and I don't have a way of turning that off.Anyway I'll see where I go from here. From Pamela

Pam, I had my Garden Number last night so I am now M6791.
To change to plain skin, click on this link;
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/plain/UserDetails
You will see at the top of the page Personal Details in Bold type, followed by Nickname:, Skin:, User Mode: etc. At the side of these there are boxes. Onthe right hand side of the Skin box, there is a little black arrow poining down (it looks like a black triangle with the point at the bottom). Click on the arrow and you will see a list of skins (Alabaster, Classic Goo, Brunel and Plain), just click on Plain then on Update Details at the Bottom of the page.

I said I'm confused here .My last message just proved it. I said I couldn't find the buttons on plain skin. I have now. They don't look like buttons there. It's a list down the side, and I didn't read it.Writing is clearer in plain skin ,but I prefer the other layout. I also said that spaces between words disappear. Tehy haven't . They did on my first message to Friendly Garden and they do on message boards. unless I do as I explained.
Alan I have put you on my friends list. From Pamela.

Which skin are you using Pam?
If you do get trouble with some long theads, you can change to plain, then change back to the one you prefere.
You can put pictures on your space by changing the style to GuideML but then you'll have to format your page using at the start of a paragraph and at the end.

AtAt the moment I'm in Alabaster skin. It works well with my printer. I have been looking at your page with the other skin colours. Some parts are difficult to read, but some of that may be because of my TV picture. From Pamela.

HiHi Alan .I saw the GuideML page you've done. I think it will take a while before I can get My Space to look like that. I'll keep trying. From Pam.

Hello Pamela.
The Bush Internet set top box is not the same as a digibox, but I believe they have similar problems in both not being a computer.
The digibox is something that people with digital television have and there is an email service with it which they can use to sneak into http://www.bbc.co.uk but not many other sites.
The digibox people tend to use test messaging and chat speak a lot.
The box I used to use was web2u (now discontinued) which I think was more like the Bush one.
I did find that Alabaster skin was OK on it, but had other problems such as not being able to read long threads where there were more than 20 replies, and the online button not working. Your problems may be different depending where you go and what you try to do.
The Guide ML code is difficult but not impossible if you are not using a computer, mostly because you can't "copy and paste" and have to type every letter out one by one.
Can I suggest that you set up a new article and practise on that, I found that helpful, as then your space isn't a mess while you get it working.
Good Luck Pamela.

Pamela , one thing you can do right away for your spae without learning any code is to press the RETURN key twice at the end of a sentence.
This will space it out a bit like this.
And this.
And the smileys don't need any code, you can just type < cake > or < tea> < dragon > but without a space and they will turn into a smiley picture like this
You do need the code for the big pictures though.
Hope that helps a bit.

Hello Brown Furby,I can get Who's Online o.k.on Alabaster. It comes up like a seperate page. I don't know about getting more than 20 posts. I haven't got there yet. On Friendly Garden's page he has a button. 'Computer users can click here' That one works for me too. Or I can scroll down. From Pamela.

You don't have to change your prefs to see the page in plain skin.
Just type plain in place of alabaster on the address bar

There is no address box on the television internet.
I used to be able to press the "Goto" key and then type the URL but the difficulty I had was I had to know the URL and I had no way of knowing it as there was no address box.
You can put an <./>online</.> link on your page and go to "My space" and follow the link on your page. That's the best way round it that I can think of.
Hola Pam
BrownFurby Posted Jul 29, 2003
You can do the online link without putting your page into code.
You can just type
< . / >Online< / . > but without the spaces in the brackets.
Hola Pam
alji's Posted Jul 29, 2003
BrownFurby, you can type <./>...Link...</.> in posts without the spaces.
