Naw, he has another strategy, if you put all the good players on the first alto-part, then, hopefully, the second part won't be audible...
Well, one can get really angry with those arrangements, but I suppose I shouldn't complain, we've just had our first lesson in arranging orchestral works and choir works, it seems hellishly tricky...
What sort of books do you read then?
Musikklinja, here I come!!!
Tacysa Posted Aug 22, 2003
I forced him to switch me, so all is well. I think he figured it out when there was no second. Happy, happy, joy, joy.
I'd imagine it would be rather difficult. We had to arrange a solo/ensemble piece once and mine was absolutely horrid. I just can't read music, maybe I should learn...
I read most anything. I love fantasy and science fiction, but those historical fiction types have gotten to me of late. What bout you? Or have I already asked that?
Musikklinja, here I come!!!
Mr. Carrot Posted Aug 22, 2003
Good... always happy when problems are solved...
Yup, we've just started working on it, it's all these rules, at least when you're arranging classical pieces... arrrrgh... well, we're starting with the basics, so I can't complain...
Yeah, you've asked me... but I'll repeat that I read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi, and lately I've read loads of Terry Pratchett. Historical fiction is great, I've read a couple of those books, and they've all been really interesting... What are you reading now, then?
Musikklinja, here I come!!!
Tacysa Posted Aug 22, 2003
Just think how much worse it can get! You'll have a blast putting things in unmentionable key signatures...
At the moment, I'm rereading Lion's Blood by Steven Barnes. I should be reading Miracle at Philadelphia since it's due in a few weeks, but its just sooooo dry! How bout you?
Musikklinja, here I come!!!
Mr. Carrot Posted Aug 22, 2003
Arrgh, naw, I'm looking forward to learning it, if I don't understand it, I'll try a different approach.
Well, I'm on "Moving Pictures" by Pratchett, "The universe in a nutshell" by Hawking, and some other books I can't even remember the names of that I picked up at the library.

Tacysa Posted Aug 22, 2003
Fiddle with it until it works, in other words?
The joy of reading. Half of the time, I'll grab books at the library and be almost done reading them before realizing, hey! I've read this before. I've just started going book by book down the rows. Takes the guesswork out.
Musikklinja, here I come!!!
Mr. Carrot Posted Aug 23, 2003
Yes, I suppose you could say that...
Haha.. well, I'm even worse, I can't read more than one book at once, because I keep mixing up the plots, even if one is historical and the other is sci-fi. I'm terrible there .

Tacysa Posted Aug 23, 2003
Do you have any pets??
I usually read several at once, but they blur together. Makes for interesting book reports!
Musikklinja, here I come!!!
Mr. Carrot Posted Aug 24, 2003
Yup, I'm a dog-owner, how about you?
Hahahaha, that's soo true, I really have to wring my mind when I write my reports, so as not to incorporate the Vogon constructor fleet in "Fuglane" by Vesaas.(Norwegian book about some farmers living far from everyone else, in the mid-1900s)

I am a many dog owner (7housedogs). We also have two turtles and a cat. What type of dog do you have?
I think the worst I ever did was mixing up HG Wells "War of the Worlds" and "Red Badge of Courage." I think that one, however, was partially intentional as the latter book really bites.

Mr. Carrot Posted Aug 24, 2003
Oh my, seven? You have to spend a lot of time, if you are to train seven dogs...
I have a collie.
Well, I've managed "The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy" and Vesaas, but I think I've said that allready, haven't I?
Musikklinja, here I come!!!
Tacysa Posted Aug 24, 2003
They actually learn from each other. You only have to teach them specific things. I like collies. What's his/her name?
I think you've already mentioned it, but I probably wouldn't have remembered. Why are you called Mr. Carrot? Do you have red hair or do you like carrots?
Musikklinja, here I come!!!
Mr. Carrot Posted Aug 25, 2003
Hmmm... yes, I've seen that. What kind of dogs do you have?
Her name is Tara.
Well, I do like carrots, but it's really a long and complicated story, and I'm not really interested in explaining it. Suffice to say, you'd laugh at it if you'd known me for a while, but otherwise it's not very entertaining.

We have 5 Italian Spinoni, 1 airedale, and 1 Tom-dog (our version of the common shepherd/rottweiler yard dog.)
One of those inside-type jokes? Perfectly understandable.

Mr. Carrot Posted Aug 28, 2003
Oh my... I've never heard of an Italian Spinoni... I wonder if it has another name in norwegian, what does it look like?
Ahh.. yes. Actually... my life is built around inside jokes... we have loads of them, both among my computer geek friends, and my orchestral friends/classmates.
Musikklinja, here I come!!!
Tacysa Posted Aug 28, 2003
Spinoni have long, floppy ears, dipped toplines, wirey coats, and spongy noses. They come in orange or brown and can have patches and roaning. I wouldn't know if Spinoni had different names in Norway. I do believe that one went to Sweden a few years ago...and Panama...
Jocularity is a grand thing. My friends and I have some rather strange jokes that we use quite often...

Hmmm... I'll have a look in my book... but not today...
I've got eight pieces that I have to know by monday, so I'm a bit stressed now... Arrgh, I suppose it'll be allright, I just need time to practice...
Haha... thanks, that was great

Procrastination is a good thing. Have fun 'working'!
Musikklinja, here I come!!!
Mr. Carrot Posted Aug 29, 2003
Well... I wasn't really... I just have a v. lazy teacher...
But it's actually quite fun, I've had a look at the scores, and they're really strange... but quite cool, and I'm relatively free, I have a lot of impro and stuff... YAY
Musikklinja, here I come!!!
Tacysa Posted Aug 30, 2003
I think that a lot of music teachers are...shall we say, laid back? I hate improvisation. I can come up with stuff, but I actually have to think about it. And stuff? I noticed you were on a lot.
