Create is great! Thank you, Sol
Sol Posted Dec 6, 2011
Can I just say, thank you all so much for your support.
And that you all have it exactly right. Especially in that following the actual tasks to the letter isn't important at all. Plus, any ideas (and volunteers) welcome. Ideas for tasks, people to host a one off task, people to help out a bit more long term, all welcome.
And also I for one would be really interested in your Christmas, Bel.
(Sorry, have been wordy in the announcements thread, am all typed out).
Create is great! Thank you, Sol

You don't know what you're asking for, Sol. My Christmasses are really dull. We don't even have to spice them up.
Create is great! Thank you, Sol
Sol Posted Dec 6, 2011
I dunno, if your Christmas dinner is anything like Tav's, I will be hooked. Plus, what do you do instead of the Queen's speech? And what is the equivalent of the afternoon James Bond film?
Create is great! Thank you, Sol
Gnomon - time to move on Posted Dec 6, 2011
It's very easy to be "creative" but never produce anything.
And it's also possible to be "not particularly creative" and churn out useful stuff. I think Create encourages the latter.
I'm not "creative". I'm not an "artist". But I have written a couple of hundred entries for the Guide. I've taken 18 photos which were used by the BBC Eds as illustrations for entries, and have drawn about 25 diagrams.
I'm not saying I'm brilliant. I'm saying that I just do it, rather than talking about artistic temperament and so on.
And Create encourages people to stop thinking about it and just do it.
Well done!
Create is great! Thank you, Sol
Secretly Not Here Any More Posted Dec 6, 2011
Gnomon, you're a shining example of how important "uncreative" people are to the site.
Seriously, I'm eternally grateful for your analytical eye when it comes to grammar, spelling and the construction of entries.
Create is great! Thank you, Sol

I’d like to add my belated word of encouragement for ‘Create‘.
For someone newly blundering into h2 for the first time, it may be fairly daunting to chance their arm with a full blown EG entry with all the vagaries of PR. But, they may feel confident enough to try out a suggested topic from Create. A bit of encouragement along those lies can’t be bad.

It's just regular MTV on demand (UK) but it looks like a pay to view scheme.
My daughter used to enjoy the series Pimp My Ride when they did the 'celebrity' cars of random rap stars and the likes.
Create is great! Thank you, Sol
Deek Posted Dec 7, 2011
Ah sorry
My artistic creativity got all fouled up.
Yes, it was a MTV series that I thought the 'Pimp my Space' thingy was drawn from.
Apologies all round

I love the idea of Create, too. Thanks, Sol, for all the hard work and the great ideas. Anything that gets more people writing (especially for the Guide) is a good thing!
I actually usually don't enjoy writing, so I don't do much of it (and I have an art degree, if Fine Arts counts ). I don't have enough free time to do it even if I did enjoy it. But I love reading, and I enjoy following these kinds of activities if only for the entertaining and informative reads! Though I was trying to rack my brain for a recipe for the festive recipes share...
I also want to say I appreciate the hard work many of our "not creative" people do for us (Gnomon for sure!).
Create is great! Thank you, Sol

Oh, you can do a recipe, if I can. When you start telling people how to cook black-eyed peas, you've hit rock bottom.

Hmmm, let's see now, using only protons, neutrons and electrons I can make every atom in the universe, and with those I can make everything animal, vegetable and mineral. I don't seem to mind this impossibly tight restriction

Malabarista - now with added pony Posted Dec 7, 2011
I think it's better than the old Challenges, because it's not so EG-centric. Good for people who need a kick start, but I'd hate to see them all become mandatory.

I must be thick or summat. Can someone please tell me what part of this, taken from the Create homepage, states 'you WILL do these tasks'?
>We will do this by suggesting tasks in these areas that you...<
Clue:- keyword = suggesting.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Also where in this, also from the homepage, does it state things are set in stone and no deviation is permitted?
>This project is very much a work in progress, and we would welcome your feedback and suggestions on how to improve either the concept or the organisation generally...<
>And if you have ideas for any challenges you want to set your fellow h2g2 reseachers,...<
------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't recall reading in noohootoo's T & C's that in order to partcipate ANYWHERE on site required users to have a minimum of at least 1 University Degree or be an artist (whether recognised or not).
I actually see create as being a follow-up to what used to be the Editors challenge only widening the scope to encompass all manner of writing and creativity. Surely that can only be a good thing in furthering the aims of the site overall?
Create is great! Thank you, Sol
Sol Posted Dec 7, 2011
Oh and yes, indeed, that Pimp my Ride thing was indeed the earworm that drove the clearly unwise title of Pimping your Personal Space. Clearly now I must actually watch an episode...
