PR needs reviewers
Lanzababy - Guide Editor Posted Nov 29, 2011
Thanks Bel for starting this thread. It's great to see both an increase in the number of new Entries being submitted and new people reading and reviewing.
Just a simple, 'I read this and thought it talked about the subject well' is good for the writer - and the Scouts who later make their decisions. So the more positive comments the better.
If you can see a point that isn't clear, or something else that they should add, then a simple comment on that is helpful too. It's constructive criticism like this that helps the Entry to improve that we're looking for.
We *really* need someone who has read Flaubert to review a new Entry - anybody out there?

How many more entries and subs do we need to increase the amount of entries we put out per week (evidently, new sets twice a week would be a great initial goal, if bold perhaps)?
And yes, I'm already linked in

We're publishing 3 new entries a week. To publish twice that, we'd need to be producing 6.
Ideally that would mean we'd need at least 12 sub-editors because we want them to be able to take away a batch and work on them. We also need 6 people to enter new entries into Peer Review each week, and we need 6 new images - photos or artwork. There are a number of places where bottlenecks in the process could form.
The one we're trying to get over here is the easiest - if everyone reads just one entry a week in Peer Review and tells us what they think of it, the entries could flow through much more quickly.
Obviously the more entries you can comment on the better.

My thanks to Gnomon to whom, without his undeniable mathmaticical talent, we would all be doomed
I check through a couple of PR entries each week (more accuratly a do a good analysis of 2 each week - i read and give comments on lots)
I know we added a subbie - how many does that take us to?
And if we are adding a pic to each entry (or video etc) how do we stand in terms of community artists there. I know that people can do their own, but you're never going to get anything from me at least

Thanks for the push, Bel. I haven't been in PR for ages, although I was already planning to write a new entry tonight if I have time, on the Treasures' Gallery at the British Library.

We seem to be missing a few olympic sports - i tempted to write a whole batch, just so people can link to them in the hoard of olympic entries we're finally starting to get. (and they'd be easy to pic)

We've got 9 people who volunteered to be sub-editors, but only about 3 of them are active at the moment. Plus we have three of the Guide Editors, who between them sub-edited almost all the entries published by the BBC this year.
We're a bit constrained on the artists front at the moment. It obviously takes the artists longer to produce a quality image than it does for a subeditor to look through a typical entry and correct a few typos.

I look forward to the Treasures Gallery entry - it's one of my favourite places. I started to write about it many years ago but didn't really get off the ground

Unfortunately, I have very little time for anything to do directly with entries at the moment, because we're working on some stuff behind the scenes.

we have a lack of olympic sports covered. I'm tempted to do a christmas project. I am away from a computer for a large part of it though

I read one yesterday, honest! But I lost power to my office before I could comment (which is probably for the best because it was one of frleon's, and I'm just crap at maths). Anyway, I'll try again at lunch today.
And if you're looking for an easy link to PR, it's at the top of *every* page in Goo
Well, and in Alab*ster, too, I guess.

Well i've just started a 6piece project, for finishing by Feb-April (nothing like a nice long time for procrastinating)

Mala does make a good point - at the minute I'm possibly stretching myself a bit far between something for The Post I want to write, some things I want to do, writing Entries of my own, Subbing Entries, and reading, commenting and scouting in PR. I'm also a guru, but I haven't actually got around to doing *any* guruing.
So I guess I'll just proceed doing all of them, but slower.
Thing is, I enjoy all of the above and don't really want to stop doing any of it *completely*...

KB, we need all the things you're doing, so just keep doing them.
I've spent all of today doing some Post work which I hadn't got around to doing for ages. That means that I haven't read anything in PR today.
Or done any other h2g2 things.
I've only just read my conversations for the first time today.
Still, if we all do bits here and there continuously it will help, I'm sure.
It's good to see so many people saying they'll get back into PR in one way or another.
Oh, and a for Gnomon.
