Bel, does it mean that the school ends after the 9th or 10th class, has the three main forms we have in Germany (Hauptschule, Realschule, Gymansium) parallel with the possibility to change between the different parts?
I ask because here we have "Gesamtschule" as well, meaning that the three forms are in an integrated school with pupils beeing divided according to their abilities in the different levels, but our "Gesamtschule" goes right through to the 13th (or if they will take A-levels after 12 years it is the 12th class) without having to change the school (if you have the qualification).

It was a Gesamtschule, but now pupils enter any of the three different forms right after Grundschule. They changed that a few years ago (they had two years of 'Orientierungsstufe' before that, and only split up afterwards. If you click on the link I posted, you'll see.

Congrats, proud mum! It's wonderful that your son was an accomplished student, and even better that he was so kind and helpful toward his classmates and teachers!

Sorry Bel, I had overlooked the link.
Schoolsystem in Germany is weird, and anything but really good (my opinion).
Doesn't make the achievement of the kids less worth celebrating though
(I wonder it would be worth a guided entry: one country - 16 different school systems.....)

Isn't it lovely when they do something to make you proud of them?!
I'm really pleased for you. Well done him!

Thanks.
I passed on all the congratulations. I think he was pleased. I made a point of telling him that people from all over the world now know about him and his achievements.

Congrats to him. I've finished compulsory education myself a couple of weeks ago and I get my results August the 27th. A levels in September if my marks are good enough to get in!

Thanks. I want my results, not too good at waiting though!!
Still it's good to have time off school and work out what I want to do in the future.
