Well, the thing was that boiled rice, whether uninfected or infected never made the monkeys sick. It was only when I fractionated it that I could get fractions that made 'em

seems rice isn't that robust, doesn't it?
kitchen hygiene isn't what it used to be, it seems. it's vital to cool food down quickly and refrigerate or freeze as soon as possible
and stuff like and should always be cooked 'well done' lest you get yourself a salmonella infection - or worse...
