Bel,
I hope you checked that the phone number wasn't a premium rate or it could be a costly one!
Hope it turns out ok.

I had no option, but you got me curious now, so I checked. It's €0.14 per minute, and it was a short call, so will be a max of € 0.42. That's well worth it if this really was the end of it all.

Oh, that's good! Over here some such calls are a £1 a minute or more, which is drastic if you don't notice!!

Oh, from what I found the most expensive service line is € 0.24 per minute, so even that won't cost you a fortune for a couple of minutes. However, if they put you on hold, it soon sums up.

I just stick with the saying, 'if it sounds too good to be true, the chances are it's exactly that'.
Seems when times get hard the 'scammers' come out the woodwork to try and make a fast buck out of other folks misery.
As they'd say in Yorkshire, 'you get owt fer nowt'

You can call me TC Posted Oct 28, 2008
Have you ever called Ryanair? It's about €1.50 a minute and they keep you waiting for ages. Then they are really nice to you and tell you it'll cost you €150 Euros to change your flight and when you get the bill it's €300. Hmmpfh.
Still, I have no option but to use Ryanair as they have the most convenient flights, and I'll probably save back the lost €300 with judicious planning of my next flights.
Even my husband - Mr Sceptical with a Capital K - has been saying to me lately "Why are you throwing yet another free holiday away?" as I always chuck these things away unopened.

I've never called Ryan Air. I've decided that the few € I save per flight aren't worth the discomfort of getting to Hahn and back (and to Stansted respectively).

I agree, I've had it with "budget" airlines. In the end you pay the same or more (including time & travel to out-of-the way airports), and get treated worse than a lamb on its way to slaughter into the bargain.
In the UK, you can join the Mail Preference Service and Telephone Preference Service. These are free, and will ensure that you're not bothered by unwanted junk mail and cold phone calls. I get the impression that some people would rather receive the junk mail and phone calls, then complain about them, than do anything about it.

I don't get a lot of junk mail, and there is a waste bin just for this stuff next to the house entrance, so it's not a big deal to just recycle it.

I think there is an equivalent here, but I don't know the name, or where to find it.
I'm not in the phone book, so 'cold' calls never happpen.

...and that junk mail had to be shipped who knows where a second time, with a significant environmental impact...

one time I collected all the junk mail for some lottery (euro 4 of euro 10 for many different charities / chance 1 in atleast 9 zeros). I send it back without postage.

I am totally unable to comment or add to this thread - I have not received a single 'snail' mail for over a year and only about a dozen in the last ten years!
