Nice to see you back in PR with an article Bel.
I'm taking a break from writing now my last piece is done and dusted. I'm being selective in what I comment on in PR as well. Less risk of being accused of being of 'low intelligence' that way.

nice, an edible entry
allthough most pumpernickel is too sweet for me now
but it goes down well with blue cheese and port

I've found a reference claiming that it is considered an 'elitist' bread because it seems to be associated with hors d'oeuvre and caviar.

Elitist? It's the most common stuff around! But I suppose it's like brown sugar, that was once for poor people...

Not elitist in Germany, but apparently in countries like the UK and the USA, where, according to w*k* you can only buy it in a delicatessen.

Hmmm. Not very common in the UK, perhaps, but it wouldn't really have elitist connotations to me any more than...sauerkraut, to pick something at random.

See, KB, that's why I thought I'd best not mention that. It does seem a bit far-fetched.

You should find it easily in Golders Green and similar areas throughout britain. My dad was virtually raised on pumpernickel and chicken soup.
