Just a taster.
I'm new. I'm a girl. I'm a Personal Assistant, a good one. I work in Drug & Alcohol and I "get it".
Age: 34
Live: Sydney (v. happily)
One large, friendly, significant other. A less significant, while still being significant, dog (small fwuffy thing).
Interests: Chocolate, science, addiction theory, fantasy, DNA.
So, I'm here.
How many people come here after the emotional experience of reading Salmon of Doubt?
I arrive today fresh from that experience and regretting that the one time I met DNA, at a book signing in Sydney in the late 80's, that I *got books signed* instead of shaking his hand and just saying "Hello, how are you?" (although "jet-lagged" would have been the blatantly obvious answer, poor guy).
We did exchange words. :-) DNA asked my name and was sleepily surprised that it was "Morwenna" and he paused for a moment to repeat it thoughtfully and comment on it's prettiness. He was about to sign one of the books when he said, again surprised, "um...I didn't write this one."
I suppose I must have looked embarrassed and/or disappointed (age 16) because after I mumbled something about the book being "about" his books, he signed it anyway, along with my much loved copy of HHGTTG.
The result is that I probably have the only existant, signed by DNA, copy of "Don't Panic", the official Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy Companion by Neil Gaiman.
I was talking to a friend about DNA last night and we discovered that he is the only author that either of us has ever actually rolled up to a book signing to meet. My friend is 48 and an avid reader, I'm 34. I hope DNA had some vague recognition that he was outstanding in that sort of way.
It's nice to be here, and I hope I'll remember to have a good look around and read-around and get comfy here, re-decorate "my Space" and get to know some of you good folk.
With my best regards to all,
Wenna
