Well, look at this, if it isn't my favourite female member of Lord Mike's merry band of followers. smiley - smiley

I don't know if you've seen: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/A1021951 yet, or how used to H2G2 you are. When I first joined I got very confused, and spend a few days huddling under the stairs from the confusion. It's so big here...

Anyway, glad to have you aboard your Ladyshipness. Quite a few of the gang are here. If you pop over to my page (if you just click on the Chewable Acidophilus bit, then it'll take you over to the wonderful lack of logic which is my page) then you'll be able to find Lance, Mike, Pam, Martin and Richard, who are around here somewhere.

And, wow, thanks for putting a link up to my site. smiley - smiley Now, I'll sit back and watch the visitors flood in. smiley - smiley

Well, come and say hi to me on my page when you get chance. I've got some biscuits there, and a comfy chair or two too. smiley - smiley

Hullo - Steven! smiley - smileysmiley - smiley Great to see you. smiley - smiley

Thanks so much for welcoming me. smiley - smiley Quite a nice place here -- though I don't understand it at all...

Just one thing I'd like to know: How do I make myself have a name instead of just a number? Feel like someone from The Prisoner here....

And I do love your page, (and you name as well!). Haven't been to anyone else's yet, but I mean to as soon as I have a chance. I've been so busy lately. smiley - sadface It's so nice to have all the best people from the Boards here, makes it much more comfortable, even if I don't understand the place! smiley - smiley

Hello Marian,

I like to think of H2G2 as a giant messageboard, but devided into lots of section. Each person has their own "section", so if you want to speak to someone you can go over to their "section" and start a conversation there. You can add your friends (as Lance said) by clicking on the "Add to Friend's" button on the right of their page, and then their name appears at the bottom of your page so you can easily go to their page.

At the same time, you can write "guide entries" which are generally a short essay on something, usually these have some sort of purpose, and are aimed at people in general as everyone can read them.

Moving on from this, if you see a guide entry you're interested in, you can start a conversation there, which will appear on the author's screen. It's like that that you meet new people really.

On your "personal space" area, down the left of the screen you have a list of all the conversations you're in, which is handy as it also shows you when you get replies, so you can keep track of what's what.

I hope that sort of makes things clear. After a while, you get used to it, and fly around the place. After that, you can start writing your guide entries in GuideML (a ridiculously complicated coding language that lets you change the size, and style of writing, add pictures (or blobs as they call them for some reason) and do funny things with writing, like make it go round in circles...)

Hopefully that's cleared things up a little, rather than making them more complicated.

I see you managed to change your name then. That confused me for a while at first too.

-Steven
