Traveller in Time Reporting Bugs -o-o- Broken the chain of Pliny -o-o- Hired

I have managed to break the chains of Pliny, it was a legacy feature, left by the BBC-ID, think I can state 'I did not survive BBC-ID' smiley - weird

I am still worried about the site, not less, rather much more since 'I made some bad postings'.

Currently I am in a state of self proposed slow posting, while I try to find out what I do not find in the Rules and Regulations. For sure it is not written in the guidelines or announcements, though it seems to be there somewhere.

smiley - offtopicÂșoooooooo-------------------------\__|____/

I surely do hope not to have taken the luff from the entries for the University project as once by 'Shagbark', currently by 'Florida Sailor'.
As I see it, I tried to sail clear from any not jet discussed, edited or announced aspect of tall ships. smiley - brave
Over the years I have had many thoughts about helping with or continuing the project myself though always stumbled on the fact that I do know next to nothing about tall ships. As well as my limited knowledge of the english words made it a real challenge.

I am still confused as the english just seems to miss so many words, or perhaps I just do not search hard enough for them . . .
Any ordinary dictionaries may have some nautical expressions, though most are just not mentioned at all.

Anyway I have build some vessels, (smiley - rocket or are they escape pods? smiley - tekcor), and linked them together. Now some more runs through the content to complete, make clear, remove misspellings and type O's.

Glad the Captcha smiley - monster is slain, though my editing and posting frequency would have been way below the threshold anyway. smiley - zen

And as I can create and edit entries now, I also took over the 'Burning Man Project' from smiley - cogs.

smiley - offtopicÂșoooooooo-------------------------\____|__/

I am on crossroads about what to do with the vessel collection. I could apply for a University Project and or get them through Peer Review. Though it is not the actual PR that withholds me from it.
Both my previous entries were made unreadable by the subeditor, not to blame any subeditor as well as the GuideML was perfect in the raw entries but they applied the rules and made it not outstanding to the text. My idea of readable is in the test view, not only is perfectly clear what the GuideML does, it is also completely seperated from the content.

Reminds me of Hag Hurkinflurst about the footwarrier: 'His feet are the wrong size for his shoes.' Fit the Eleventh

Besides, beeing on slow posting disallows me from starting the threadsanyway.

Wikipedia has also got a glossary of nautical terms.

Thanks for the effort smiley - ok

None has culling in the sense I try to use, < A87856799 >
nor shrinking as in controlled backward sailing < A87857220 >. Well those are the words I have found for respective actions though as long as I do not have a detailed description from several sources I will have my doubts smiley - biggrin.

I will try do do as little updates as possible, though chances are some or all may be unavailable for several hours.

Original University project about 'Sailing Ships' was by 'stragbasher'
< U91902 > About the content I was not wrong, it is about tall ships or square riggers. "

Found little of relevance on a connotation seach for 'culling', though there is a relationship to 'sculling' founded on the point that an oar is very similar to a winnowing fan and 'rowing' is founded on motions similar to those of 'culling' cereal grains by means winnowing.

I'll have another look later.

Ditto, 'shrinking'.

It does though have a generalized sense meaning to move backwards.

"Remarkable things these wings

I notice some hesitation against gybing in my vessel stories. Most probably due to the several masts I have seen breaking and catamarans performing a catapult manoeuvre.

Most experience from sailing a sloop like gaff rigged vessel.
I have done 'some tacks' in many different catboats often mainly for instructing the ownersmiley - weird.
Done a small adventure in the Canal with a (too)small yacht, were we experienced the tidal flow is not something to ignore, seeing a huge wake behind a fairway marking buoy.

I am not a fair weather sailer, I have sailed in force upto 11 Bfd and windsurfed at force 10, admitted falling asleep in a Topper at 3 Bfd is also not a good idea.

In recent years I have been less adventurous just devoloping several propulsion systems. I have build and tested the 'windmill' rig as well as had some serious fun with a 'Gibbins' rig mounted on my raft.

I really have a raft as in several contraptions with hundreds of milk bottles. Three of these tubes, tarp underneath some surfboard centreboards against leeway, form a useable platform to play with my riggings.
Also made some additional seat and oarlock kits to scull on a surfboard smiley - surfer, this was even before Stand Up Paddling became a custom.

Still building the vessels though the bulk seems to be done.

Sculled for many kilometers in tidal creeks as well as rowed even more. Still none is any near a match of rowing the Atlantic or circumventing the Arctic. "

Shrinking, still nothing, but it does remind me of the English of Admiral Lord Nelson.

http://cs.mcgill.ca/~rwest/wikispeedia/wpcd/wp/e/England_expects_that_every_man_will_do_his_duty.htm

He was very given to unusual constructions which had the effect of forcing people to think.

Florida Sailor All is well with the world

Hi smiley - tit

Gybing is probably the most dangerous manouver in sailing, especially for a novice. When sailing down-wind it is quite possible to sail with the wind several degrees on the 'wrong side', we call this 'sailing by the Lee' At some point the wind will grab the back side of the sail and cause them to violently shift to the other side. This is what breaks masts and causes catamarans to pitch-pole.

I usually sheet home my sails and make a sharp turn to pass the wind to the other side quickly and let the sails run and return to my intended course on the new tack. I have used this method on both gaff and marconi sails

Traveller in Time smiley - tit satisfied with the shrinking
"Even in my language it is not a really known concept. However in the story it has to prepare the 'normal' sailors to the shunting concept of the proas. It took me days to grasp the idea and get over my feeling it is totally wrong. Only after realising I performed the same idea when windsurfing backward the penny dropped. Many discussions later I found someone having a proper name for the manoeuvre.

Your 'a generalized sense meaning to move backwards' satisfies my idea good enough. As it is not a 'proper' way of sailing it will not really be published as such. Best chance is someone playing with vessel and having a vague idea of the concept knows about it. smiley - ok

Hmm, there is something about Cryptology < F74125?thread=8312799 > for the Nelson Codebook going on . . . smiley - biggrin "
