A pain in the rear

Post 1

Meg

Metaphorical or actual?
Both actually.
I usually suffer with sciatica but have been feeling it more of late. I do wonder if physical pain is sometimes linked to what our subconcious is trying to tell us. I'm not denying that disease can be inherited and wouldn't suggest that what we think could cause illness.
It's probably just the way my mind links the physical, mental and spiritual as one. Waffling here as I'm tired and in pain...
I know what I mean but don't know how to describe it fully except from personal experience.
I am currently suffering neck and sciatic rear-end pain. This makes me think about people and things who are a pain in the neck or a pain in the rear. There have been a lot recently including the NHS who told me to leave their service this year; a difficult potential client; a bored, house-bound (works at home) husband; and very needy friends and at times children.
Being in this much pain also reminds me not to try to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders as it hurts!
Have been trying to fight the pains this year by joining the gym and tai chi and keeping active but it seems the more I do the worse I feel. It's bad at the moment due to digging the allotment last week. I'll have to find a good chiropractor. My last one moved to East Angliasmiley - sadface I'm having trouble sleeping due to the pain, which is making me grouchier than usual. I know that there are much worse pains but this is a nagging toothache pain in hips, knee, shoulders, neck and a headache.
Apologies for moaning.

Louise Hays writes about the type of connections you are speaking of.
She would say a pain in the ass is quite likely connected to another person in your life. I liked reading her stuff and think there is a lot to it. However I do not buy the whole control thing. I do believe you can reduce suffering by learning a lot within her written content.

I know for sure if something is wrong, it will flare up when you are tired or stressed. Anthing that is a stress symptom can worsen or start-up if chronic. Most of all > stress alone kills! The cold is not helping you when muscles are involvedsmiley - sadface

I believe in the mind-body-spirit connection but not always in the way it is portrayed. I do not believe we can control everything. I believe that it can be feeding a willful personality a bit too much of what ails them. Sometimes telling people they can be in control harms ,especially when they feel like a failure at not *curing* themselves.

I also believe it helps to complain when warrented.
Not as a way of life, of course that is bad. As a way of hanging onto reality and taking proper care of yourself is vital.

They have done many studies about journals for back pain, headaches and asthma and found that it helps. It helps to write about the "pains in the ass and neck " no matter their multiple sources.
So congratualtions on taking a good step forward by moaning!

Please take care of yourself!

Thanks. I know I don't have much to complain about, but you are right about it being necessary. I know a woman who became very ill postnatally because she was not a complainer and doctors thought her symptoms were minor. She is now recovering from major surgery.
I know what you mean about the mind-body connection you put it into words much better than me. I know that some midwives think psychological problems can hinder childbirth. I don't dispute that this is possible, but it mustn't be voiced in a way that makes a woman feel guilty for having too many problems to be able to birth her baby.
Thinking of you.

Oh Meg, you sound like you've been in the wars hon. smiley - sadface

You could try Bowen technique or Shiatsu for helping you relieve the pain and prevent it from reocurring maybe. You could always try putting a little ginger oil in the bath and having a long soak too.

How very true that all too often people feel that they are too blame for their illness and if only they tried harder, they could 'control' and beat it. I've had to come to the conclusion that's not always the case - sometimes bad things happen to good people.

If you are ever in my neck of the woods, pop in and get some shiatsu. smiley - hug

I'd love some shiatsu Fynn. If you're ever over my way you can avail yourself of my midwifingsmiley - biggrin Ok maybe not for a couple of years yet.
Pain has receded to managable levels again. Saw a new osteopath last week. Very gentle treatment but ached afterwards. was going to have a follow-up session yesterday but have a tummy bugsmiley - sadface
will have to see her again next week.
Love to you both.
