Hi Meg

I was looking at my friends list, and saw that you'd put me on your list...so thought I'd better hotfoot it over here and say hi.

"Hi"
smiley - biggrin

Have we spoken before? If we have, please forgive me but I have a terrible memory sometimes. smiley - headhurts

I see that you're a smiley - nurse and midwife. I'm pondering whether or not to train to be a midwife at the moment.
I'm a shiatsu practitioner and an acupucturist and attended the labour and birth of a friend of mine (the mum that is, not the baby... smiley - erm) - what a wonderful experience!
I'd like to centre my practice around pre and post natal women, and set up a birthing centre in time.

smiley - tea?

Hi there,
I don't think we've actually spoken but I've seen your name quite a bit and liked the look of your spacesmiley - cool I'm new to all this so added your name so I'd remember who sounded interesting. Sorry I couldn't reply sooner but I only have acess on Monday and Tuesday nights (when I work as a nurse in a factory). Ask away about midwifery, but I may boore your socks off as I do go on a bitsmiley - doh It is my real passion and I can't imagine ever getting tired of it. The training can be rubish though if you're used to being your own boss. You really can be treated as stupid and have to do things that you don't agree with. There is also a fair bit of accademic study which would put me off if I had to train now. If you have a passion for it and can stand-up for women when everyone around is disagreeing with them then go for it!
I'd like to work as an independant midwife but am still building up my skills. I'd love to hear from yousmiley - rainbow

Hi Meg just wanted to say hellosmiley - biggrin
I see you have met Leosmiley - cool You two enjoy many of the same things.

I do not think Leo is around much. She used to be more active , she's often in 360, have you been over there? More of a nartural health and vegans, alternative ways and interest in helping the world sort of area. There are some really special women over there, men too I am sure, just have not had the occassion except for knowing Pheloxi. Take a look sometime if you have the chance. You can get to it from the BBC hub. It uses the same nicknames and passwords. You will find a page there of this one with a different look. You can post either place and it shows. They may or may not ask for you to sign in IF you want to post there.

This is the journal of midwives connected to medscape. This month they have the history of midwifes since the 40's in America. 40% of the babies then were delivered by midwifes.

You were asking about the US healthcare on Amys thread I thought you might enjoy this pub and link. Medsdcape has ob gyn journal too. I have found them to be reputable.

Hi Meg - feel free to go on about midwifery! Like I said, it's a subject that I'm fascinated with.

Are you a trained smiley - nurse too? I'm contemplating training to be a midwife - I did think of doing the nurse training first, but now I think that I would opt for *just* doing the midwifery training.

Are you based in the UK?

Hi. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply but I only have computer acess at work. Sometimes I'm too busy to sit down, but last week I was off sick. Yes I am a midwife in the UK. I don't think it's necessary to do your general training first unless you are undecided or wish to have other options open to you. I trained as a nurse 20 years ago and then did my midwifery. Being dual-registered suits my needs. I earn my money nursing in private industry and get my job satisfaction through the midwifery. Not that it's an easy job to do. The highs are so high and the lows are in the depths. It is a real emotional rollercoaster. You can pick my brain further anytimesmiley - rainbow
