Dr Deckchair Funderlik

Hi McMillian, and welcome to H2G2, one of the best places to be on this planet smiley - earth and indeed on any other. I too have just finished reading the 'Salmon of Doubt' and it is a very inspirational book. I agree with you about the photo smiley - ok

My name is Dr. Deckchair Funderlik, but don't worry, I'm not a doctor smiley - doctor. I am an ACE for this place, that is: Assistant Community Editor. I'm basically here to help you. H2G2 is a big big place. Someone was sent off to mark the boundaries last year, but we haven't heard back from them yet. So if you're feeling somewhat overwhelmed, and I know I was when I started out, then here are a few places to check out:

If you are looking for more general information about the guide then go to the <./> welcome page</.>. . Its a good place to start.

When you are feeling creative, visit the <./> GuideML-Clinic</.>. This page will show you how turn your guide entries into the sistine chapel-type of entries they will doubt deserve to be.

If you are wondering how to make the smiley pictures like smiley - magic then click on any smiley. Simple, eh? smiley - biggrin

And, naturally, don't panic. No really, don't. Click on 'front page' and then click "Don't Panic" instead. It will take you to some nice big friendly help pages. Also, you might want to try this page by Rocket Man: A725500, as it is packed with loads of useful information. smiley - smiley

So - that's it really - wander about, don't be afraid to ask questions, write a few entries when you feel like it, jump into the many conversations going on here and have many a smiley - laugh, a smiley - cake, a smiley - tea and a smiley - bunny on the way. Though, given your 'Simpsons' leaning, perhaps you would prefer these:

smiley - donutsmiley - donutsmiley - donutsmiley - donutsmiley - donutsmiley - donutsmiley - donutsmiley - donut..

and, did you know about this one? smiley - doh

Feel free to reply to me with any questions you may have. If you don't have a question, then feel free to reply with a definitive assertion.smiley - biggrin

Dr Funderlik,
Could you tell me how to find the most recent conversations or entries? Sometimes I find a title with a statement next to it saying the last reply was for example 4 weeks ago and when opened it reveals it to be from a year or 2 ago. This is a little confusing...smiley - huh

Hi McMillian.

This sounds to me like you might be opening the conversation at the first post to it, and not the last one. If you click on the title to the conversation, you are taken to the first post. If you click the bit that says when the last reply was, you should get taken to that last reply.

If you do find yourself in the wrong place on a conversation, you can always follow the red dots that come with it for free smiley - smiley . Each red dot on the page represents 20 posts to that conversation + however many there are on the last page. So, if there is a row of six red dots that means that 100 posts have been made to that conversation so far, + however many there are on the current page. If you follow the red dots to the end of the line - or click on the arrow that might be beneath them, that should take you to the most recent page and hence the most recent post.

I hope this helps a bit - if not, or if I am completely wrong here, give mr a shout smiley - smiley
