Safety Day the tenth

So this week at work, it is 'Safety Week', there are little meetings throughout the day, talking about different safety things, from how to clean up an acid spill, to how to pick up boxes properly.

This evening there was an activity to do, and was staged at night to include the Replen team, something not usually done. Other team members also participated, the event was staged over 2 hours.

We gathered in the trade yard, and each had to pull out an 'injury' from a box, we then had to get our 'injury' attended, these ranged from being blindfolded if you got a blinding, getting a sling if your main hand/arm was injured, and getting a stick strapped up your back for a back injury.

We then had to proceed to attempt to do everyday things, such as washing up, chopping a vegetable, or mixing a cake....

Then it was on to potting a plant...

Then onto the fun ones..... trying to put on a bra (we sorta teamed up and helped each other),this was rather interesting as of course most of the blokes had no idea how to put on a bra, they have only ever tried getting them off smiley - laugh, there was also trying to put on a pullover shirt, and trying to get onto a bed to lie down.

And lastly we had to get into the forklift, this simulated getting into a vehicle and driving.

And then we got to have hamburgers smiley - biggrin

Once completed and signed off, you went into a draw for a $200 bbq (I didn't win, which is okay because, I have nowhere to put a bbq anyways)

And the point of this exercise?. To reinforce how an injury can impact on your normal life, so it is better to go safely about our work, and to think about how we do things, we want to send everyone home safely at the end of the night.

And this is one of the reasons I really like the company I work for, they don't just mouth platitudes about being safe, they actively encourage team members to be safe, and to help each other be safe.

And here ands the lesson.

Glutten! Day the Ninth

A few weeks ago at work I was asked to contribute a few recipes to a cookbook that was being put together, and sold to team members to raise monies for a charity, I can't for the life of me remember which one, but it probably involves children or cancer, or both.

I was asked, as I an GLUTEN free

So today I was told the books had arrived, and so I dutifully went to the office to get my copy, and pay my fiver. Upon flicking through it to find my recipes, I see:

my stores name
my name, my recipe name
and in brackets underneath GLUTTEN FREE

woohoo I can eat all the cake I want now as it is free from gluttens smiley - laugh

I had several giggles all night.

Anyone else come across any interesting spelling mistakes?

Work! Day the Eighth

I don't usually work Mondays, but since we had so much stock left over from last Friday, and I owe work some hours, I went in to do a short shift and help out.

Our work operates on us working a set amount of hours per year, in my case, it is 1976, this is divided into 26 fortnights and this is how much I get paid per fortnight (penalties are on top of this sum), if you don't work the right hours, then you 'owe' the company these hours, if you work more, then the company 'owes' you, and once a year they pay this out.

as it has been a quiet winter for stock and there have been times we have gone home early, I have been accruing 'owed' hours, so by going in today, I have now paid these hours back.

It was just lucky that my boss rang me to okay me going in before 3pm......I was going to be making my crumpets then, so no crumpets for me this week smiley - sadface

But at least now I am into the company 'owing' me, I try to keep the balance swayed to me so I get an extra little bonus at the end of the financial year smiley - smiley

and just as an offside, in the 6 hours I was there I managed to put away 3 pallets. I finished the 'Decor' (mops and brooms) Pallet from Friday, did a mixed house wares, security and bbq hotplates, and did a pallet of sandpaper sheets, and rolls, I felt very good walking out at 9pm

Blender! Day the Seventh

As part of yesterdays shop, I bought a new blender, it is red, it will go fast smiley - laugh

I have been wanting a blender for a while now, and have been sort of looking at them, but most were bland or underpowered or over priced, and then I spotted the perfect blender, it was red

I love red, if it is red, I will buy it, if it is red, I will want it, if it is red, it is mine.

I am a marketers dream smiley - tongueout

I have this little recipe for mayonnaise.....with smoked kippers in it. I have really been wanting to try it, but to make mayonnaise, you really need a blender, so now I can smiley - biggrin

The universe is a wonderful thing, smiley - magic

I have been looking for a blender and it provides me with a little red gem

I am at peace

Covers! Day the Sixth

I really didn't meant to, but....

Partner (hearafter known as my Snow Meow) and went to the big shopping center, near where he lives, we go there every couple of weeks, him to JB HiFi, the local dvd/bluray and electronics store, he has 1000's of dvds abd blurays, and me to just generally shop, I like looking at shineys and things.

Since I got my GalaxyS2, I have become a bit of a phone cover collector, and today I bought a few more, well a bit more than a few, 5 in fact!smiley - doh

they can be viewed here http://yfrog.com/g0iwh7j

and I got given a couple of little bobbly thingos that suction on the back and act as a phone stand...because I am getting well known at one particular shop.

This brings my collection to about 26, I will get a proper count once I get back to my cave sometime tomorrow.

oh, and I got a new screen cover for my phone, it puts a dark red border around the phone front, and making it look awesome, it will go well with most of my covers as the majority, are red, with the rest being white, silver, or black.

I just can't help it smiley - biggrin
