I have just seen a programme on bbc1,about elderly care and nursing homes, and it was absolutely dreadful.i cant comprehend how one human being could do some of these things to another.it's time everyone let their local authorities know that we wont put up with their decisins ,as in our councils caes,to no longer admit physiacally frail people, except in emergencies.anyoone else hae any views on this programme.???

hi sal... i didn't see the programme hun... but i have heard before about the way some care homes treat their patients... it's disgusting... there should be tighter restrictions and more fundings all round.... sheryl..... xxxx

hi sheryl, nice to hear from you love, are you okay??i sat and cried watching that programme, and i think its disgusting.my mother is in residential care, and we have been fighting to stop the local authority from selling it to the private sector, just for the reasons you gave.they are going ahead with the sale, and i arent happy about it at all.xxxx

i think the private ones can the worse ones in some cases.... they don't have, or even need trained staff... there's very rarely anyone there with medical knowledge... all they need is a building with a kitchen, someone with basic cookery to do the meals, such as they are... a few bedrooms with basic furniture, bathroom n loo, and maybe a lounge area and dining area.... what they don't need is experience.... then they fleece you for all you've got..... bloody disgusting.......

you are quite right sheryl.a lot of the staff dont have the qualifications they should have, because there isnt enough funding to pay the decent wages.i have been apalled since we started this campaign almost a year ago.the council gives the best of everything, but cant afford to keep the homes on.there should be funding from the government to keep them open.salxx

hi sal.... the government look after their own hun, no bugger else.... things have gone back to the days of the work houses.... they'll bring back the penny line next i shouldn't wonder.... why the hell don't these homes apply for a lottery grant, there's supposed to be millions out there waiting for someone to put a bid in... too bone idle to see into it... the fat cat at the top will be too busy counting his money and the staff too thick to know about it...... now which way up does this bed pan go.............
system stinks sal, and it's getting worse....

Paganmoon that is a great idea!! I am going to suggest it. Lottery funds. Brilliant!
It is a huge problem here, it always has been. The other side of it is many could stay home if they had home help. Once again it is funds.I that idea. Most lottery funds go for parks and libraries here. This is a desperate need in comparison. I am doing something about it! It would be the perfect thing to get onto our voting issues ballot.

hi abbi... think it's a problem worldwide if the truth be known.... i agree, if people could get the help they needed at home, there wouldn't be the overcrowding in care homes and hospitals....
the lottery funds tend to go to the arts n stuff... what use is that to a deaf 90yr old with a bladder problem.... no bloody use at all..... think we should all put a word in with our local government about it hun....
take care.... sheryl..... xxxxxxx

I don't know if you caught the insinuation (believe thats the correct term) when I originally posted it abbi, so I thought I'd repeat it here too (as I think it relates to man's cruelty to his fellow man):
"Science may have found a cure for most evils, but it has found no remedy for the worst of them all - the apathy of human beings."
Helen Keller

That is for sure jaZZ.
Oh thanks for mentioning her!
I read her as a young girl.
Helen did amazing things
It's interesting I've been reading or peeking at, what I'd read when young, poetry & books.
Some are timeless, such as Helen
It served me well to have read about others struggles.

Right abbi, its inpiring to find out about overcoming adversity, & just How much adversity can be overcome with patience & perseverance (not to mention getting unbeatable examples of just what patience & perseverance really are).
