I think that is well worth checking out Lizzbets line of thought.
Women often have last name changes or use nicknames all their life.
There are several people that I do not recall their real names only having heard them once.
I would look into church records if their are any to be seen.
Perhaps a Babtism of her or a relative, a wedding other times when guest books are found.
One place many people find information is through any travels they may have reguarly made. You can look at (most types of travel) passenger lists from long ago.
Goodluck Sal It can be a roller coaster of feast or famine
Getting family history. People where likely to be adopted by relatives back then, often without a paper trail.

Thank you liz,and abbi.
Tabitha is mystery.I have found her listed in the IGI,(which is the morman site for research)and very good it is too!
The only reference to her is for timothys' birth, then her marriage three years later to john.In the records it gives timothy's birth, and the date, then mother Tabitha.the surname is there too,but i have found her marriage ,and that says spinster. It looks as though she was closed book until her marriage, and i do have her death certificate,(a copy). We believe she gave her son up when he was tiny,as they are not together again on any records we have found so far.I have gone through 4,000 entries so far,as many people used "tibby" as a nickname for Tabitha, but i haven't given up yet!!!!!!Thanks for the
wishes.

Wednesday,6th september.
My eldest half brothers son died (my nephew),so i sent a sympathy card.I didn't go to the funeral as it was awkwardfor the wheelchair to get to the graveside, but i did take flowers two days later.I went to my dads grave at the same time...the first time i have been ,as i didn't know where it was before.I took some flowers for him too,and my grandma and grandad
My niece rung me,and last week we had a get together...i haven't sen her for about fifty years. She brought her daughter, and three ofher grandchildren,we met up at my daughters house..as two of my daughters were there,my sister and my niece, and my five grandaughters.
We all got our photo's out,and it was surprising how much the children resembled each other, and other members of the family in the pictures!!
It was a lovely afternoon, and were looking forward to doing it again...there's even talk of a family get together...now that would be something!!!

It's getting to be that way kaz, there does seem to be a lot of us on dads side, but i still have lots of people to find!!!
It's quite exciting each time i find someone who could still be living, but apart from immediate family i haven't contacted anyone yet!!!It takes soooo long to track descendants down!!!

Sounds like quite an afternoon. Are you watching the new series of 'Who Do You Think You Are'? - fancy Barbara Windsor being distantly related to John Constable! I never think of going out along all the branches with the family tree like they do on that programme - I tend to just keep going backwards looking at my immediate ancestors.
Do keep us posted with your ever growing family, Sal.

Hi liz
I saw barbara windsor, she was quite pleased at having someone "famous" in her family, wasn't she?
You really should try go
ing back to siblings ,as well as your immediate family,it can be really interesting.Do you want the names of sites,or have you found most of them???I only use two sites that i have to pay for,and they aren't expensive, some are ridiculously expensive!!
I'll keep posting on here as things progress,it works as my diary as well,my memory gets worse!!!

14th december...thursday.
I've had a bit of a break,i couldn't concentrate well enough to be searching records!!
I decided to add some of mum's side of the family, and have got back to my gt.gt. grandparents, only to find that they had a double barrell surname!!!!
It also appears that they came to england from ireland(potato famine time i suspect),but the surname has caused me problems....as one of them was just dropped ,for no apparent reason.
So,here we go again,Anothr hold up...lets hope i can go further back.....i shall try when i have more time ...probably over christmas!!!

16th april 2007.
We went searching a graveyard that we've meant to visit for ages....and i found a family grave for tabitha s' family(her grandsonand his wife ,and their children).Further researh has indicated that maybe Tabitha didn't come from the area we've looked at,but from an area in lancashire, rather than yorkshire!!So the search continues, but i feel that maybe we'll find her before too long now.

Hi Sal, Been trying to find my way round this and finding it hard, don't know if I have gone onto the right thing to chat to you, so here is hoping. Maybe I won't be able to reply to you if you reply to me, as I really don't know what I am doing with this!! Have a good day.
