why are you pursuing existing names?
the made up names can be a lot more successful, because strings no attached!
I would choose a letter you can turn around...like foofoof
...bad one pheloxi...that sound like posh dog's name
cazac (clothes (by) aza (with) care).

I'm pursuing existing names, pheloxi, because I'd like to find something that is evocative of the styles - a made up name might be cute but it wouldn't *say* anything, you know?
I tried out bambú with the font yesterday (Century Gothic) and I think I quite like it. I think being all in lower case gives it 'simplicity' and the accent over the u gives it a somewhat exotic look.
Any other votes for bambú?

I've changed my mind and I'll vote for bambu, I like the name and it seems to carry the right message, classy, simple and natural

I've been getting a lot of positive feedback on bambú from all sorts of people . . . and Noggin and I are quite liking the name.
Just a bit concerned that maybe I like it because it's 'new', something different from bohemia, which has been my possible label name for about ten years . . . am worried that six months from now I might feel that bambú isn't so okay as I think it is now.
But everyone who likes the name says the same thing - that it evokes a simple and natural image, which is basically what my clothes are all about.

I think I know what you mean. Sometimes I'm afraid I'll make an impulse decision, almost a whim, and regret it later. Might take more thought.
I do like the name bambu, though, it does conjure up thoughts of relaxation and simplicity... no flashy colors or baubles or anything overly trendy. Though as soon as the boho-chic trend has passed (and I can get my regular summer clothes back out of the closet, I have dressing according to trend) you might like Bohenia again.

The only thing I'd say about bambu is that to someone who hadn't seen the word written down, they may not distinguish it from 'bamboo', but that's probably not important in a web-sales context.

Well, bambú is actually bamboo in spanish . . .

I was thinking more in English circles, for people who only heard the name and then tried to find it online.

I like bambú az.
In fact you have inspired me to get start up Photoshop and do a bit of logo design.
I have posted up what I have done here: http://public.fotki.com/catcollection/logos/logosforaz.html
What do you think?
I have realised that it has been too long since I did any serious design work...

I quite like the bottom one, Lady - what font is that? Thinking that I'll probably just stick to the letters and not use any sort of image for now.
Meanwhile, we have to check that we can use the name - found this the other day:
http://bambu.com/home1.php
So bambú might be a registered trademark (at least, for rolling papers).

The font I used for the bottom logo was *Worstveld Sling Extra Oblique* which I downloaded (free) from dafont[dotcom].
I thought it might be likely there would be another company with the name. See how it goes though - don't give up hope.
Meanwhile I saw another company with a similar name that does clothing ( http://www.spicybambu.com/ )

"worstveld" looks very funny in Dutch. if I translated it literly "SausageField", but make it sound intresting "Field for a Sausage".
curious if would sound funy in Spanish!?

I also came across the 'spicy bambu' website the other day, Lady. Yeah, I think there are bound to be companies with similar names out there but the most important thing will be to find out if there are any other clothing companies with this name or if bambú is a registered trademark.
I don't think the bambú clothes from www.bambú.com really count as they are just t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, etc with the Bambú rolling paper logo on them.
Here are some examples of the name options in the font I was originally thinking of using. The bohemia woven labels I have now (had them made up a few years ago) have more or less that colour background with the name in white, so the top one looks closest (even though the letters are pale grey).

That's cool, then. For the English-speaking market, I would try to point that out. The one problem I would have had with bambú is that it might appear to be another bandwagon-jumper on that silly fad of misspelling things on purpose. But if it's a valid foreign spelling, that's different. English is mostly comprised of valid foreign words.

This is on a bit of a tangent - sorry about that - but I had to put this somewhere. It's a good argument in favour of natural fibres as clothing.

And now, back to names. I think I prefer bambu over bohemia, but only by a small margin.

Absolutely Ivan - down with polyester!!!
Curiously (or not?) English speaking people seem to prefer either bohemia or bambú and Spanish people have (so far) chosen bambú last.

Maybe they associate bambu with splinters or something.

That is curious. I wonder why that is? I still do like "bambu". (Of course, I also like "bohemia", though now that's second)
And I can't stand polyester either!
