Which name do you prefer?

Hmm, yes, i realise that's what the "usual" connotation is, so the fact that this sort of clothing range is pretty much the exact opposite is a sort of "in" joke; but maybe too subtle for many?
There's some sort of clothing range with some really evil name, using the same tactics, but....it can't be that outstanding 'cos i've forgotten it! Australian definitely.
I had an Ozzie mate years back who opened a store selling Dri Z a Bone coats and stuff she imported, she was looking for a name & i suggested "Walkabout"; it worked very well, she's now retired & living off the profits! *hey Sue, where's that bloody pair of jeans you promised me huh?*
"Bohemia" is pretty but...i do think people will assume the hippie-drippy thing.
Have you got any pics of the designs? Something might suggest itself just by looking at the actual stuff.
zdt (you can call it zendevil if you wish!)

to be honest you should make up a new word, because most words are used in some way.
may be anagram the words you wanted to use..

I still like "Bohemia", because it also brings me a mental image of a free, easy lifestyle, as opposed to hippiedom. But then again, I can lean a little toward the hippie, so maybe I'm just not picking up on it.

It's weird because I've had these two names going on in my mind for years and to me they both seemed to work quite fine. And I was thinking more about a 'bohemian' type of lifestyle rather than drapy colourful scarves and long dangly jewellery, etc.
But due to limited start up funds, I've had to limit the fabrics and colours I'm using for the first collection, so this is partly why the styles are turning out to look similar to my 'eclipse' designs and also why I've decided to put the two concepts together into one collection.
And so, although 'bohemia' has been my 'working title' for about seven years now, I think it actually doesn't work anymore. That feels a bit sad, actually.
But it's certainly been helpful getting all your input. Tell you what. If anyone convinces me to use a name other than 'eclipse' then they *will* get a free sample.

OK...so how about word association?
Bohemian? How about calling your range Rhapsody?
No?
I'll get me coat.

Penumbra? (Syn. with "eclispe", that's the only reason I mention it)
"Eclipse" is nice, I like it, too. Especially now that you've explained the fabric coloration, etc.

How about something else that reflects the kind of lifestyle you're thinking of? Buenavida, or some contraction / extension of the term?

Next week we are going to a textile trade show in Madrid - quite looking forward to it.
And by October we *have* to have decided on a name. These days we are drifting back to 'bohemia' and the marketing will focus more on a 'bohemian lifestyle' rather than ethnic/hippie stuff.
Still not totally decided.

Actually, that might work, Terri. It's also the same in Spanish (except it's pronounced 'thhen'). Hmmm . . . will think about that one.

There is no loss in having a touch of chill, not to say evil, about a brand name (lounge lizard, bohème). People enjoy taming something with an edge to it.
Eclipse on the other hand suggests dullness to me. Her brilliance was eclipsed by the sheer preponderance of mediocrity. That sort of thing.

Is azahar pronounced ath'ar? Or maybe asth'ar?

How about if I convince you to not use eclipse even if I don't come up with another name?
I'm pretty sure there is clothing in NZ that has the name Eclipse on the tag. It's imported-from-Bali-mainstream-hippy-style clothing. It's not a designer name but you might want to check if they are trading internationally. I can't find anything about them online though.
I like Eclipse as a name - it certainly caught my eye on the clothes I saw in NZ and they had nothing to do with black and white. Besides eclipses are very cool.
Bohemia I quite like too, although I recently had a conversation with a friend where we were discussing an older couple we knew when we were growing up. We described them as
bohemian but it wasn't necessarily a complement - they were a bit up themselves and elitist. This is probably a cultural thing - I wouldn't usually see 'bohemian' as negative but I can see that in NZ people might use it as a slight against someone.

The word Bohemia suggest another word to me: Boomer. Wrong generation perhaps.

This may be another reason for my antipathy to "Eclipse": Sonnet LX by Shakespeare has this
". . . Nativity, once in the main of light
Crawls to maturity, wherewith being crown'd
Crooked eclipses gainst his glory fight
And Time that gave doth now his gift confound . . ."
I know the sonnet well, having set it to music.
