I'm delighted to add you to my friends list, az.
While surfing the site I came across a number of researchers who had only posted once or twice then disappeared, in the manner of nighth**ver. I thought it would be fun to collect these as I came across them and the only place to store such a collection was in my friends list. I've added a new one today.
"God gave you a brain." He was probably having an off day - about the same time He created the serpent perhaps? He must have known it would lead to trouble.
Persia = Iran. Somehow 50 years of Iranian art doesn't sound so interesting.
Mesopotamia = Iraq. How is it that things can change so dramatically?

Looks like I wasn't the only one with the bright idea to see the exhibit this week before it closed. I went in, but it was soooooooo crowded that I couldn't see any of the display cases. Well, the two I managed to see at the beginning were quite good - some pottery and jewellery dating back to 2,000-3,000 BC. And so I am going to go back tomorrow during lunch/siesta hours (3-5) as it shouldn't be crowded then.
Nighth**ver?

Ah yes, Nighthoover.

Seems to have generated quite a cult following. Posted once with one question: "how do I cancel this account?" Never been heard from again.
There are a number of researchers who have done something like this but only Nighthoover has had this kind of response. Weird.

Dammit, I can't seem to get the links to work.

No? Oh well I tried.

Hey, you're up late! It's about 12.30 am here.
I just got back from a surprise visit. And old flatmate (from England) showed up out of the blue with a friend and they took me out for tapas and wine.
Couldn't find any of that Nighthoover stuff.
Someone told me about a thread I was mentioned on today but it ended up not being very pleasant. Well, happily I really don't care what this person thinks of me (Della) so it doesn't matter what she says. Though I guess it is somewhat annoying. Kind of like having a mosquito in your bedroom at night.
But I don't care because I am just feeling so darn good these days. And now I'd better get to bed because I have an early class tomorrow morning. Buenas noches!

"Hey, you're up late! It's about 12.30 am here."
Ah, you noticed. I popped in at about 11.30 last night for five minutes before shutting down the computer.
Kali Mera.
I'm amazed you have never come across Nighthoover; it's all over the site in half-a-dozen different threads and is virtually a religion with some researchers. I don't know why the links won't work but I'll try to sort that out. Just do a 'search for a friend' on Nighthoover if you're interested. Try not to get sucked in by their seductive message...
How can it be that azahar gets a mention that is anything other than pleasant? Just point these people out while I roll my sleeves up.
Tapas and wine? What a great surprise. That's what old friends are for.

Is this a closed discussion or can I join in?

hola!
I have no idea who that was or why they want to speak to us.
But speaking of tapas and wine . . . got *dragged* out again by Alex and friend for lunch and was *forced* to drink some and eat some lovely tapas!
Now I have to sober up for my last class of the day.

Howdy!
The Admiral has been contributing to a faintly surreal 'laws of physics' thread so (she, I think) must have followed me over here. I don't mind him/er joining in as long as s/he doesn't shout. I don't like it when people shout.
It's awful when people drag you out and force you to drink wine and eat tapas against your will. Terrible. The only reasonable way to punish such a heinous crime is to inflict the same (cruel and unusual) punishment on them. A sudden surprise thrust with a light rioja and then a full attack with - yes, why not - a traditional paella. That'll teach them, the swines.
Don't you find the class goes a little better after a or two? Obviously not as a regular feature or anything, just when it can't be avoided?
After a lunchtime birthday 'half' with a colleague (some years ago) I spent a highly amusing afternoon writing some letters to customers. I worked in revenue control so these were asking for overdue accounts to be paid. Let's say they employed a more imaginative approach than normal. Fortunately I forgot to post them.
I caught a bit of a comedy programme recently and one sketch might have appealed to you. It involved an unmistakably English woman applying to join an evening school course for 'English as a foreign language'. The tutor tried vainly to explain that she couldn't learn English 'as a foreign language' because it was her first language. She suggested the woman should learn a proper foreign language instead but the would-be student said she planned to do that but wanted to try something easier first. I know plenty of English people for whom English IS a foreign language; even though it's their only language.

As for Nighthoover, I will have a look around. Are you on one of these threads? Sounds a wee bit . . . shall we say ???
And as for rolling up your sleeves aw shucks, honey. Thanks for the offer, but there is really no need. It's just Della imagining that I am her 'enemy' (like, say what? ) and posting lots of crap about me. I did try speaking to her about this but it turns out that there is no talking to her. Hell, she even started a conversation on my personal page called War and yesterday started another one with someone else - once again saying totally untrue and unkind things about me. But I reckon her thread cred is such that nobody whose opinion matters to me will pay any attention to these ramblings. So I reckon that just ignoring her is the best thing to do.
Well, gotta teach again in about 15 minutes. And then - THE WEEKEND! yay!

"thread cred" Brilliant!
No, I'm not a contributor to the Nighthoover threads (as far as I remember), just an amused observer.
Go start one on her space called 'peace'.
Ah, yes, the weekend. The weather forecast isn't too promising so a little DIY (do you have DIY in Spain?) is on the cards I think.

Yeah well, I would never actually do that, but as Tom Waits says - you're innocent when you dream . . .
Hey, you were right that a couple glasses of helps to make a class just whizz by in a very happy and fluffy manner! I did warn ValentÃn when he showed up that I had been kidnapped at lunchtime and forced to drink wine, in order to explain my very flushed cheeks and rather distracted manner.
Really, even after one glass of wine my cheeks light up like a Christmas tree! It's quite embarassing.
Well, now what? Oh yes, the weekend! Ummm . . .

Yes we do, but as with so many things in Spain, they call it something else. Bricolage (brik-oh-LA-hay)
I have a neighbour, an American guy called Eric, who normally comes over to do 'little jobs' for me that require a drill or other sort of electrical tool. He does the work, I make him some food. It's quite a good deal all round.
Gosh, it is totally foggy today. Reminds me of Bristol. So I think it is a good day to stay in, keep warm, and do plenty o' nuthin.

Hi az,
We've actually seen a little sunshine today but bad weather's on its way they say.
Drill holes for food? Yes, that's the sort of deal I had with my family before I got married. Now I drill my own holes and get my own food. I do enjoy a bit of DIY though, even if I am a bit slow by professional standards. I wouldn't want to do it for a living but in exchange for the odd meal was always OK.

Have spent the past couple of hours reorganising my bookshelves - which meant DUSTING everything, hence .
And I'm only about half done!
Another cloudy grey day. I have had two last minute cancellations today so this means I still get paid for them. Which means I am being paid to reorganise my life here. It's a bit scary though. You know how you can just ignore doing stuff like this for ages, but once you start you realise how much more needs doing?
So that's me today. Not very interesting. How are you?

Hi az,
Funnily enough we were doing something similar over the weekend. We've been sorting out old bank statements, bills and stuff with a view to setting up a domestic finance spreadsheet. I use spreadsheets all the time at w*rk so I should transfer some of that expertise into keeping my own cheque book balanced. Hopefully we can work out some ways of saving enough money to take a holiday this year.
Cold today but it was bright earlier. It's starting to cloud over a bit and snow is forecast for later today and tomorrow. Snow is alright if you don't have to go out in it. At least it makes the garden look as good as everyone else's.
There doesn't seem to be much happening on here today. Have you found any good threads?
