Hi, Ben sent me over saying you might be able to answer a question about his entry on Combatant deaths in the two world wars. He gives the casualties for China as 10 million but I was curious as to whether this included the Sino-Japanese War or just WW2. Do you know anything about this? It's only to satisfy my curiosity so if you don't know (always wanted to use that smiley) Cheers

Hi Iago,
No and Yes. I don't know the figures for Chinese deaths in WWII, and Ben is a woman. Meanwhile, I decided that all that info on the Taiping Rising should be unpgraded to a Guide Entry, as part of my ongoing China/Tibet related outpourings.
(PS, Honest Iago, I once acted the part of Rodrigo, "put but money in thy purse..."to Iago in a school production of "Othello.")

Thanks for that, I've always been pretty interested in China and the whole of East Asia. Tragic is the word that springs to mind.

The Taiping stuff is now in entry form ( though still editing ) at:
A2257670. I'm intending a piece on Mao as mass murderer in the very near future, once I've done a bit of revision of the relevant texts and sources.
