Hi venuskiss...
Captain Kebab Started conversation Feb 11, 2003
Hi and welcome to h2g2.
I'm Captain Kebab and I'm an ACE, or Assistant Community Editor, which means I've volunteered to help greet new researchers and try to make them feel at home here on h2g2.
If you're ex-Leisure District you might want to check out the Friends of Leisure District page here - U201567 - you'll find a warm welcome and specific advice for ex-LDers there.
Or you can just hang around wherever - there's loads to do here, so I've put together a page with some h2g2 links that you might find useful - you can get there by clicking this link: A794991. If you'd like to know any more or just want to talk you can click on the 'reply' button you'll see at the bottom of the page and I'll get back to you, or click on my name at the top and you'll find yourself at my personal space. You can leave a message for me there by clicking on 'leave a message'.
I hope to see you around soon (although I may be a bit hit or miss myself for a few days - problems with the pooter - oh well) ...

You said you were on LD (= Leisure District?). If you are still using a digibox to access h2g2, you may find the site works better in plain skin. Otherwise the box tends to run out of memory displaying all the graphics.
Here is a link to let you select plain skin in your Preferences: <./>/dna/h2g2/plain/UserDetails</.>.
Here is a link to get back to your personal space in plain mode if some unhelpful page link forces you into a different skin: <./>/dna/h2g2/plain/U218978</.>.

Hi venuskiss...
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted Feb 11, 2003
hi thanx for the links...i wish i knew how to work then.. it was so easy on ld, i'm finding all this stuff more than a bit confusing..sure i'll get the hang of it sooner or l8r..
Hi venuskiss...
SEF Posted Feb 11, 2003
Don't panic - we've even got a link for that! The links on a page should be high-lighted somehow on your screen. To use a link just move whatever cursor you have to the link and click/press it. Did you try the link for plain User Details to set your default skin to plain in the drop-down list? Your "skin" controls the way you view the site and plain is a simple one specially for digibox users.
Note that people's nicknames at the top of postings like this one are also links. They take you to that person's personal space (called PS for short). That is where they write something about themselves (or not!). You can always go to your own personal space by clicking on the "My Space" link on the left hand side of the page.

I noticed you said you were having trouble with the links and getting in touch with people ..just clck on the link you want to use, then to post..either click "discuss this entry" to start a new conversation ,or
click on a conversation already listed and then "reply" to join in..hope that helps.

Ey up venuskiss!
Hope you're getting the hang of things a bit better now - feel free to shout if you get stuck! I don't know anything about digiboxes (except that they sound like hard work!) but I know where to find stuff here!
I have to say, despite a week-long battle with my computer to get it to behave a little better (it seems to be getting the message) I don't think I'd want to swap it for a digibox.
Hi venuskiss...
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted Feb 17, 2003
hiya, well i'm sorta getting the hang of this, but still get lost sometimes, digiboxes r a pain and do there own thing most of the time. i've got a pc but dont go on it much. when i do i'm inundated with e.mails n by the time i've finished with them i cant b bothered to do ne thing else..
by the way i've been practising my symbols what do ya think?... good eh!!
Hi venuskiss...
SEF Posted Feb 17, 2003
Well you've certainly got the production of symbols figured out (usually called <./>Smileys</.> or emoticons) but the grammar could use a little work. At the moment it says something like "love dog tea". I don't know what "dog tea" is but I probably wouldn't love it!
Hi venuskiss...
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted Feb 17, 2003
ha ha ha i never actually thought of my practising "smileys" would b strung together ha ha ha ...could have a gr8 deal of fun with them.. i'm still trying to get the hang of this and as yet i havetn found out how to get my name added to the list of LDers, but i'm working on it..
Hi venuskiss...
Captain Kebab Posted Feb 17, 2003
Have a word with Manda - U193090 or Loup Dargent - U200238 - they will be able to sort out adding you to the list of LDers, and will be able to answer any LD-specific questions you may have. They've been putting a lot of effort into inviting ex-LDers on to hootoo, and helping them get used to it once they get here.
If you're getting inundated with spam whenever you go on your PC I suggest you get a new email - they're free and easy to come by. You'll find a PC is a much better tool for navigating h2g2, and for surfing in general - you can follow links out of the good ol' beeb - and PCs I *can* help out with!
The smilies are coming on swimmingly - I can't say I've ever worried about the grammar! - see what I mean?
Hi venuskiss...
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted Feb 17, 2003
thanx for the advice . i've been checking out the ld users page as for my pc its not spam i'm inundated with it more like several months worth of emails from my friends. i havent got a server for unlimited access so i dont use the net much...i'm moving later this year n hopefully once i'm all settled i'll subscribe to a server then, specially as we wont be having telewest..
I've looked at some of the pages for other people some of them r really colourfull and interesting. hopefully at some point i can jazz up my page, not yet though i'm still doing the basics
Hi venuskiss...
Serephina Posted Feb 17, 2003
Hi everyone , i might also be able to help you out with any digi box related queries being stuck with one myself! its a real pain in the
sometimes,but we cope
I see you found your way to the Folders Arms venus kiss, its a great place to start..dont let the nuttiness put you off, were all quite nice really!
Hi venuskiss...
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted Feb 17, 2003
hiya...OMG!! are'nt these digiboxes from another planet or summat!! i'm getting around a bit now and loup is putting me on the list of LDers i'm having fun with the smileys!! they're a gr8, bearing in mind that we never had them on ld lmao..were u on ld too? bet u never had the same name eh!! everyone on here has been so helpful, which is also unlike ld!! i think i'm going to like comming on here, sooooooo much to look at and get involved in..OMG i wont have time to go to work at this rate!! ...ooooooooh i love these SMILEYS!!!
Hi venuskiss...
Serephina Posted Feb 17, 2003
The smileys are great arent they! ..n yup i used to be on Ld ,with a variety of different names, but never JustMe(the titles were picked up along the way and are far too long to put fully in my name!)..that wasnt my original name here either, but thats another story!.I stared coming on here
about a year ago..was a lot less support for digi box users too back then as friends of ld is fairly new.
They got the plain skin created too!after lots of complaining i gather(i wasnt here for a quite a while due to one thing n another).
And yup its generally a lot more friendly on here, and just a nicer place to be than LD..n theres so much going on youll NEVER b short of something to interest you!
Hi venuskiss...
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted Feb 17, 2003
i had a look at ur space, surrey eh!! my partner lives in surrey, richmond, i'm moving up there l8r this year, when i can get an exchange on my place...which seems to b taking forever at present i'm in essex, so i trvel there every other weekend and he comes here inbetween.
i used to be a BIG stephen king fan, dont have the time for reading now.
I'm 44 and have 2 grandchildren OMG!!! luckily i'm not 1 of the "blue rinse" brigade yet lmao
Hi venuskiss...
Serephina Posted Feb 17, 2003
Im still wondering when ill actually grow up!..i hope never..
I dont know Richmond very well, hardly at alll really, used to drink in Kingston a fair bit though. God my space is a state! ..not fit for visitors really ..its quite sad that ive been here as long as i have n STILL havent really got the hang of Guide Ml! but then i always was useless with anything technical
Hi venuskiss...
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted Feb 17, 2003
lmao join the club lol...i'm useless with ne thing technical, and like u my space will probably never reaaly look much, specially when u look at some of the others with all the graphics n stuff...still i'm not too bothered about that sort of stuff..i dont know kingston at all, passed through it a couple of times though
Hi venuskiss...
Serephina Posted Feb 17, 2003
ive got most of the links i want on there and a couple of pics so im not too unhappy with it, might have a mess around with the font colours n stuf when i can be bothered though!
Do you find it hard living away from your other half?..i found it a nightmare (we were 400 miles apart though!)..was even worse when the bugger moved in though!
Hi venuskiss...
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted Feb 17, 2003
we're both finding it really hard, Its ok during the week when i'm working, dont have time to think about it then, but weekends can b very fraught when it comes to leaving i just want to get this move outta the way so we can start our new life
blimey!! 400 miles!! thats some distance, so i take it u didnt get on well when he moved in? did u meet him off ld?
