A greeting and farewell
DA ; Simply Vicky: Don't get pithy with me! Started conversation Apr 18, 2004
Tanzen, hi! Apparition asked me to say that he will really miss you, and goodbye... maybe you know what's gone on, maybe not. It's sad. NIce to have met you all those months ago, do you remember?
Della tcw.
A greeting and farewell
tanzen Posted Apr 19, 2004
Good grief, he's gone !
I can't say I'm entirely suprised, he sounded like he was having a few problems in here with people...but I didn't think he'd actually leave ...
I've only ever been involved in two situations that I would've called "uncomfortable"...what made it worse was there was one that I had no idea how I got involved in in the first place ...but I try not to let it bother me...
...tell Apparition that i will miss him terribly and pass on a big and to him and his from Kristy !
I do remember you...was it the Kiwi thread (please tell me it wasn't the evolution chain, that wasn't my finest moment......)?
A greeting and farewell

Hi, Tanzen... I think the situation that has been happening is one exactly as you describe, one where we all have no idea how we got involved in the first place! That is, we don't recognise ourselves as describe by (a few) people...
It was the Kiwi thread, never fear! I'll give Apparition a big hug, and I know he enjoyed chatting with you.
A greeting and farewell
tanzen Posted Apr 20, 2004
Hey Della !
It's a bit scary how often things in here blow out of proportion, all you need is one person who's on some sort of obsessive bent and everyone else gets caught up in it !
I'm glad it was the Kiwi thread...the evolution one (I think it was an Indigenous thread to be precise) became this big evil flame throwing competition that I didn't want to get involved in, but couldn't back away from ...I am too easily provoked, I guess...
Thanks for passing along the message, I really appreciate it !
So how goes it over there anyways ??
A greeting and farewell

That's about the size of it - combined with this person having a few slavishly devoted followers, and I think folie a deux! (I wish I could access the character map, but I am at the library, just the basics here.)
Today, this place is living up to the name Aotearoa - it's the kind of dull cloud that hangs around for days, and makes me miserable. I'd almost rather it did rain and get it over with! But it's still nice and warm - yay!
A greeting and farewell
tanzen Posted Apr 20, 2004
It's a pity that it seems like the decent people always leave and all we're left with here are morons with bees in their bonnets !
The weather here can never make up it's mind...we were told it'd be a lovely day and it's been cluody and threatening rain since morning...but I suppose that's just Melbourne !
A greeting and farewell

Ah, of course, you're in Melbourne... I have heard that it has a climate very similar to here in NZ. I've been to Sydney, but that's as far as I got - wonderfully warm, but wet! (November). I was delighted because at the time we lived in Wellington, rock'n'roll earthquake country, and it was wonderfgul in Sydney to be earthquake-free!
A greeting and farewell
tanzen Posted Apr 20, 2004
Well, you know what they say about Melbourne "beautiful on moment, pi$$ing down rain the next"
I've been to Sydney for about 12 hours, does that count ??
Yeah, my mate (who was my main topic in the Kiwi thread) is from Wellington, and then I have another mate from Christchurch...and of course there are others, but I haven't had time to draw up a map yet
A greeting and farewell
DA ; Simply Vicky: Don't get pithy with me! Posted Apr 20, 2004
I wasn't in Sydney for very muchg longer, to be honest. (It was such fun, shopping, sight-seeing, pure holiday!)
Melbourne does sound just like here!
Wellington is a lovely place, if you discount the earthquakes... Christchurch is too, in summer.
It's 1803 hours here (just past six pm, what time is it here? About 4 pm is my guess). Are you at w*rk? Apparition says hi... (He's in Rotorua, about 300 km away.)
A greeting and farewell
tanzen Posted Apr 20, 2004
I was supposed to catch up with a mate in Sydney but he bailed on me...so I spent a great deal of time drinking Guinness in a backpackers and playing pool with tourists !
Earthquakes sound scary...I'm naturally paranoid as it is, so having the threat of the ground moving constantly in my brain would probably drive me bonkers ...
Yep, it's 4:10pm here, 50 minutes left to w**k...perhaps I should actually do some...
(say hi back )
I've heard lovely things about Wellington...my friend gets really homesick and can spend many a drunken hour going on about his beautiful home and his beautiful family......
A greeting and farewell
DA ; Simply Vicky: Don't get pithy with me! Posted Apr 20, 2004
Wellington is lovely, but it's not the only earthquake prone place. Apparition was in the 1987 Edgecumbe earthquake - they had counselling from the Education Department (he was 11 years old at the time.) I grew up in Rotorua and we had earthquakes all the time...
Ask your Wellington friend if he lives in Miramar. It's all reclaimed land, and if there's a big earthquake - bye bye Miramar! (My sister and her family used to live there. )
Auckland doesn't have earthquakes but it *may* have volcanic eruptions one day. I suppose the moral of the story is, avoid New Zealand!
(Jim says the reason not to live here is, TVR don't export to NZ. I gather that's a sort of car...)
A greeting and farewell
tanzen Posted Apr 20, 2004
Hmmm...I think I might just say in Melbourne with the lousy weather and slim chance of significant natural disasters then !
I will ask him when I see him on the weekend...if I remember I'll see if I can catch him on his mobile...but there's no point in expecting me to remmeber anything !
A greeting and farewell
DA ; Simply Vicky: Don't get pithy with me! Posted Apr 20, 2004
Natural disasters (or the threat thereof) are part of life here, but we've been really lucky! Even in the 1987 earthquake, aside from a set of glasses owned by my mother in law (Apparition's Nana) and an old man who had a heart attack, there were no casualties.
You'll be off home soon then, I gather. Have a good evening. What line of w**k are youn? I know you said, but I forget. App has been on holiday, he's back to w**k tomorrow. (Poor thing...)
I am about to make us dinner (advantage of being 2 hours ahead.)
A greeting and farewell
tanzen Posted Apr 20, 2004
I'm terrified of walking across the road against the lights...!!
If the earthquake didn't hurt me, doubtless my anxiety and paranoia would wind up putting me somewhere that had, at the very least, lovely padded walls ...
...Well it's 5 o'clock here, so I'm out for the day (I work in an office, the most apt description for my job being office b*tch ...), hopefully I will catch you tomorrow !
have a lovely dinner !
Kristy

"one where we all have no idea how we got involved in the first place!"
Allow me to help you understand.
You posted an official complaint about someone on a public forum. You accused them of hacking your and your dead brother's account. You demanded they be banned from h2g2 for life. Then you threatened, "seriously" - your word - to have them killed.
When it was pointed out to you that the person concerned had done literally NOTHING, and that the effects were in fact due to Apparition attempting to impersonate that person in contravention of the rules of this site, you responded with vituperative insults. Only after Apparition actually told you himself did you admit you were wrong. However, you did not actually apologise properly.
Perhaps these actions contributed to your getting "involved". Possibly.

Della for your information here is how you got involved, infact you can see that you actuall STARTED the whole thing. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F117154?thread=406335 http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F63593?thread=407830&post=5173584#p5172981 You then got yourself even deeper into a mess of your own making by making a death threat and then reiterating it. <

And it seems to have happened again.
Ok, look, what I'm about to say I am going to say with the best of intentions...I hope that noone takes this as a personal slur, because it is by no means intended.
We live on a great big planet...and of all the people on this great big planet, I think it's fair to say that we're all different in our own little ways...some of us can be very similar, but there's always going to be a few things, however little, that make us unique and individual.
I suppose the point I'm trying to make is that, with all the people that are around, there's bound to be some people that we just don't get along with...these aren't things that we can always take personally, sometimes its just because we're all so different that probability suggests that there's bound to be some people that we're going to have less in common with than others.
What I think is unfair is when we try to force our dislike of a particular person onto other people...we've all done silly things that we regret...some of them sillier than others...but is propagating hate and disunity the best way to deal with it??
