.. to anyone reading the atheist bus thread for my little outburst. warner is just aggravating me a lot and for him to claim that he's speaking the truth pushed me over the edge.
I really wish we had an ignore button or that I had more self-control not to even read the threads. I'll behave myself from here on in.
My apologies...

Dude, I haven't been party to what led up to it but know you well enough to reckon you were justified.
There's nowt wrong with calling a homophobe a homophobe, especially if they choose to hide their bigotry behind the supposed legitimacy of religion.
My apologies...
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Feb 6, 2009
You have absolutely nothing to apologize for, sweetheart. You're only saying what every other reasonable person with anything resembling empathy for their fellow human beings is saying.
Don't let morally repugnant bigoted losers push you over the edge, though. They're not worth it.
I admire a person who can call bullshit when s/he sees it it. I'm in your corner, that's for sure.
My apologies...
HonestIago Posted Feb 6, 2009
I think that I'm more apologising for losing my rag, rather than what I said. I shouldn't let the guy get me that annoyed and I know my little rant will have had absolutely no impact.
My apologies...
taliesin Posted Feb 6, 2009
Losing your rag is perfectly understandable. I'm sure many others here feel the same way.
I created an ignore list, specifically for them.
I've been looking through my dictionary and thesaurus to find a word or phrase that accurately describes him and the other dolt.
'obdurate', 'pig-headed', 'intransigent' fail to do justice
'fractally stupid' is pretty close, but I feel it lacks something..
My apologies...

Iago, I was actually admiring your self-control. And your eloquence under pressure.
I've been *mostly* staying away from threads involving that noxious bigot because it does bad things to my blood pressure. That hasn't stopped me venting my spleen verbally, though. It's probably a good thing I live alone...
My apologies...

I've not seen him be bigoted yet - I only assume he would be.
But, yes, in general we should challenge him on his morality more. Who gives a whether he can C&P chunks from his favourite reading matter? It's how people behave and think that's important.
And we shouldn't let the religious take the moral high ground. While we shouldn't necessarily assume that all religious people are ***holes, we should maybe try to get certain people off the esoterica of their closed circles and get them onto the important issues. Then we can firmly say 'If that's where your faith leads you, then it stinks.'
The daughter example was scary, wasn't it? I've come across a similar RL case in my semi-professional capacity.
My apologies...

I know of several cases in Bradford. It's truly disturbing how twisted people can get.
My apologies...

Part of me thinks that we shouldn't mock the afflicted, but as he goes out of his way to seek our attention I reckon he's fair game.
My apologies...
HonestIago Posted Feb 6, 2009
Yeah, he was given a free pass for a while but he's managed to annoy quite a few people, including those not usually inclined to get involved in such conversations.
He's reaping what he's sewn.
My apologies...

Will everyone stop with the apologising already!
Nothing wrong with a good rant especially when the rant-target has 'form'.
We get Christian Bale apologising for something that happened last year on a private film set.
We have Clarkson apologising for making reference to Browns one eye (not being Scottish or stupid), we have countries apologising for the slave trade that happened centuries ago.
I have apologised for stuff I have said numerous times on this site - but only when I realise that I have over-stepped the mark.
HonestIago, you didn't over step the mark so don't beat yourself up over it.
The only thing you can do is not read the comments from the person who riles you...that is what I am doing at the moment as trying to debate with some people is impossible.
My apologies...

I don't know why you are apologising either.
Some people just get a rise from provocation that's how I read it. In his case eg his tag, his repeated starting religious threads on Ask, his repeated posting of uncontextualised lumps of scripture. He knows well enough now that it's not the culture of h2g2. I do my best to ignore him now to because I reckon he guesses I can sometimes have a short fuse.
As he sows so shall he reap. I think he probably quite likes all the attention. So now I've added to it, I won't post here again. But I just wanted to give you my perspective and feels nice from my POV to have another non straight person around posting on those threads.
My apologies...
Alfster Posted Feb 7, 2009
"...feels nice from my POV to have another non straight person..."
Do you mean one of those homo...sexuals?
Your turn of phrase made me smile for some reason.
My apologies...

What? There are poofs and poofettes on HooToo?
Ye gods, that's the last straw.
Consider me flounced.
Again.
My apologies...

On reflection...I think I have a bone to pick with you, HI.
On the other thread, we've been discussing the laughable idea of homosexuality as a sin. Sure - it's a meaningless concept, and saying that someone is sinning ('but I still love the sinner' yadda yadda) isn't quite the same as queer-bashing.
Or is it?
You know...it's been a hard fight to achieve the social progress that we have. We're only just there. But what do you think would be the voting intentions on, say, gay marriage or equal opportunities of someone who thinks of homosexuality as a sin? That kind of person has always 'Voted With Their Conscience'.
Dunno. If you've not experienced much in the way of prejudice yourself - then I'm glad. But as a boring old heterosexual, I can tell you that the attitudes I hear expressed are *shocking*. I'm not convinced people should be allowed the veneer of respectability that the 'It's a sin' mentality implies.
Feck! Where do I get off haranguing you about gay rights?
My apologies...
