often times, people need different things from a friendship. they have different roles. it seems like some of your friends are dependent. if you don't call for 2 days, you are not bad. you are just not filling the role that your friend wants you to...
it is normal to become irritated at times, so don't feel bad about that.

i think that you should talk to your friends about your concerns and then see if you can modify the intimacy of your connection...

The one particular friend is not approachable in that way. She would take major offence and would think I was getting at her.

i think that good friends should be able to say what's on their mind to each other. not everything, of course, but if something is bothering you as much as this seems to be, i would think that it'd be ok to talk to her about it.

SHe is volotile. That's all I can say.

um... then i recommend that you keep your distance and never let her get between you and the exit.

She is not, like, agressive, but could explode in a temper if you know what I mean. Sort of shouting.
She walked out of a club once because she thought me and my mate hated her, just cause we were dancing on a table and not with her. We had to chase her and stop her getting into a taxi in the middle of the city at mid-night. We had said nothing wrong and had asked her to join us on more than one occasion, but we got blasted for it.
We got a full apology the next day, but at the time, we were the enemy. Know not why.

She has been strange for a while.
She says she is menopausal at the moment, so this could explain things a little - maybe?
She is very insecure I think.
