Your plan does indeed seem like a good one. You've done the important things of changing your name and adding some sort of introduction. As a result, an ACE (Assistant Community Editor) should be along soon to welcome you properly with some more plan ideas such as where to go and what to do. This of course assumes they are not all too busy partying! 
Meanwhile, have you had a look at the Smileys page (A155909)? These emoticons and other small images can easily be added to conversations or your Personal Space. Also you might like to try changing your skin - which is the format in which you view h2g2 pages. Brunel seems to be the default at the moment but some people like Classic Goo. Alternatively you can change the colour of your page frame in Brunel by using GuideML to write your Personal Space. Have fun exploring...
