Dear Rick,

I wonder how many of us wish we had a different Christian name! My father's name was Samuel. He told me, not long before he died, that he didn't like his name. I love it though.

The reason why I asked about your name was that a 'Cedric' did post on R4. Maybe it was another Cedric!

Ofcourse, one can always reinvent oneself by using a different name!

I had a cheese scone and earl grey tea for lunch. A friend and I went into the country, to a little garden centre, and sat with chickens and birds whilst taking our lunch. It was very hot in the sunshine and very peaceful.

Clocks go forward tonight. Spring is certainly here - and I have to leave my very full garden. I put a lot of work into the making of my garden. Sob.

Hope your day is a happy one.

-X-

Hi all,Im sat on my 'arris again,I might have a job on Friday. My eye tests all came back normal so at least I haven't got to bung out for more glasses.A mate has said he may have some work for about a week fitting some new school windows at the next school closure. My income tax return is due but this year my earnings have been so low I think the taxman owes me a bit.
I hope you are doing better than me tickle(workwise)the Villa's got Everton away this weekend and the toffees have picked up form,I think Im in for a white knuckle ride again as there are only a few left and our last two games are Arsenal and Liverpool.
I still don't know what to do about Sin's place I know most of you are there already, sadly Im going to miss a lot of the radio 4 posters
I shall remember a lot of them for sometime.
I get the feeling that even when the Beeb's finances pick up again there'll never be a message board as good as the one we all had the pleasure of.
BTW tickle, what do you think of that ex 4 board? although that's a mean question as we never know quite who's looking in here.
Ahhh well I suppose the boards saga will resolve itself by next week, good luck to all of you and maybe when dear Polly is repootered we can dabble here at least for a short while.R.smiley - hugsmiley - hugsmiley - tongueout

Evenin' all!
'Tis I!
I haven't been on hootoo for ages but I thought I'd see if it was still up and running and not shut down by the Beeb like the other boards. This one's had a makeover - not sure about it yet - look wise.
It's in large print compared with the old version - is that cos it's aimed at old grumpies like me and some of you? You won't need the large print, Rik if you're eyes have been MOT'd and passed!

Most of my news is on Sin's boards but I was anxious to find out about you Rik - sorry to here you still struggle for work - now, if you were as old as me you could look forwrad to over £100 per week from the government - I'm 65 in June - glad I'm as old as I hear that the pension set up will change in a few years - prob for the worse, not sure of the details. I was listening to a prog about it whilst driving and as it got to the meaty bit, some silly old woman - yes, it just happened to be a woman! - drove out in front of me and I had to brake hard, so I missed what was said whilst I was shouting at her! smiley - sadfacesmiley - ermsmiley - wah

Hope Pol gets pootered up soon we need her on Sin's board and here.

Love to all smiley - hugsmiley - smooch

I'm not sure what to make of the new board, either. I ended up on it a couple of weeks ago, quite by accident, and posted something or other. When I came back, on the old board as normal, my message had all sorts of stray characters in it - just like yours, Folly.

Glad to hear you don't need to go to Specsavers, Rikii. It's a shame you don't have much work at the moment, but I suppose there are worse fates. I have the opposite problem just now - too much work. However, I daresay it will tail off in a few weeks.

I'm pleased to see you've signed up for the new S4 board, Rikii - don't forget the RBQ thread. Mind you, Sin's a bit peeved with you, since you've turned a deaf ear to all our pleas to join her forum. Shall I tell her you just wanted to avoid Lily? smiley - biggrin

Poisson d'Avril et un bon weekend a tous.

Hi all,yes tickle I have joined both of those boards,BTW what did you think of my photo,(on the S4 board)of the boy Riki?it's circa late 1950 with tweed jacket and short trousers(ouch)I had a quick look at Sin's board,it all seems rather complex at the moment, far worse of course through my existing glasses and this virgin alcohol free brain(?)
I travelled down close the Mr Folderol this morning,Bedford,a rather dull place, duller for me as I was stuck next to a minature bus station at a bright red shop. The heart foundation.I was meddling in there with three other guys for a few hours.I never realised that second hand junk could sell for such a whopping profit,I mean they get the stuff for nowt.smiley - erm

Hi Rikii, I couldn't get into the zeta board this morning, either. Dunno what the problem is.

Love the pic, you look very smart. It must be a very similar vintage to my avatar photo at Sin's. Different sort of suit, though.

Hope you manage to devour the Toffees today. We're away to Leeds in an early k.o. - and I daresay we'll be k.o.ed.

Just spotted this on the zeta board - post by Norm Deplume, aka offasmate:-

"I live within a couple of miles of The Stables...the Dankworth's home and music venue and frequently go there to see big bands. Two weeks ago the "Back to Basie" band were performing there and while standing at the bar during the interval, Dame Cleo came and stood beside me and we chatted for about 10 minutes, what a great person she is and what a trouper too, still performing at 83yrs old. Made my day!"

The Stables: that's where you hang out ain't it, Folly?

Hi, everyone, hope you've not eaten too much chocolate.

It's very quiet here now, but I expect most people are busy with one thing or another. Have you found anywhere to live yet, Polly?

I hope you're feeling a bit less down-in-the-mouth now, Rikii. At least it looks as if Villa are safe. And Forest still have a chance of making the play-offs, although there are at least five teams in the running to finish 6th.

The weather has been fantastic here lately, but I gather it is set to deteriorate markedly over the rest of the week, with heavy rain forecast for The Wedding. I had to turn down my invitation, as it's Mrs Tickle's aunt's 80th birthday on Friday, and we're going oop north on Thursday to join the celebrations. To be honest, I was glad of the excuse.

Have a good week/fortnight/month.

Hi Polly, seasons greetings and all that,BTW are you still bashing the keys at a local church? You haven't said where you have moved to (perhaps I missed it)I hope you can get well soon, getting older is a bit like quicksand, the more we wriggle the deeper we sink (a modified version of a quote from a record by Tiger in the 60's called Guilty, also sang by Issac hayes)My gob BTW tickle is(unfortunately for some?)is on the mend, but Im still only managing to eat on the one side.Where is everyone else?

Blimey, I thought I'd never get back here, almost lost the will to carry one trying to log in.

Hope you all had a good weekend, we managed to get all the jobs done which were on the list so kitchen almost finished now.

How's it going with the Type 2 Rikii not too bad I hope, I'm coming up to three years now and apart from a couple of little changes I tend to forget; although I think that I'm very lucky in not having a sweet tooth however I'm finding even more difficult to loose weight, which of course is the one thing that would really help!

Polly: have you found somewhere to live yet? it can't be easy and I know you are devastated. My husband is on some new drugs for his fybromyalgia and we think that he is now about 75% normal, he is actually physically working again, I can't tell you how much better his life is - I'm not too sure what they are called but I will write it down and post it again soon.

I haven't posted anything anywhere recently so I have no idea what has been going on on Sin's board, I usually dive in through the board to get to the Trivia quiz; have you really left Tick?

Had better go, best wishes to everyone.

Toots.x.

Hi toots, nice to hear from you,my type two has another month of probation yet,Im on a three month review with the diabetes nurse. If my glucose levels are no better by that time I will be put on medication.I have lost about two inches off my waistband but I suddenly have a craving for drinks and sweet things,I fancy things like biscuits and the odd cheap choc ices.I've started drinking diet lemonade as Im finding it realy hard to drink a cuppa without my usual one spoon of sugar.I read somewhere that sweetners are bad for us and I've noticed that diet drinks contain aspartamane.
How efficient are you pair?writing to do lists,if I went down that path I'd never get any time off at all,'cus when I've got the time Im broke.Anyway enough of my waffle, have a nice day allsmiley - hug

Good to hear from you, toots, sounds like you're getting on well. Yes, I have resigned from Sin's board.

BTW Rikii, I did send Sin a message - via Arena - explaining the reason for my departure - although I'd have thought it was fairly obvious. Sin's a soul of discretion, of course, and is unlikely to reveal it.

Some good results for Forest yesterday, they've every chance of making the play-offs now. Mind you, I'm not sure that will achieve anything other than prolonging the agony.smiley - wah

Hi Tickle,
Sorry to hear that you have resigned from Sin's Board, it will just have to be tea and cake here from now on. I really miss the MC board, in the end I didn't participate at all but I still miss it.

Rikii: I started on Metformin one, twice a day and then it increased to two twice a day. After that they moved me on to Vildagliptin/metformin combination but I find it impossible to loose weight. Unfortunately my weekdays consist of one hour drive to work, sit a computer for 7.75 hours followed by one hour drive home! By the time I have been in to see my mum (almost 93 but still totally independent) it is about 6:15 and I'm done in!!!

I've never craved sweets, biscuits etc, I love making cakes but I'm more than happy with a thin sliver and I find one biscuit plenty. I LOVE bread, well actually I love butter with a slice of bread under it smiley - smiley Trying very hard to stop that; I think I love carbs in generally actually. Weekends are not quite so slothfull especially when I have the granddaughters on a Saturday.

Rashly bought three tomato plants on Saturday, Mum's coming round to water them regularly, it will make her get out of the house apart from anything else. I've had a white hydrangea in a pot for about three years now but it has suddenly died on me - shame.

Well, had better go,

Toots.

Hello tout le monde - ca va?

As those of you who have gone to Sin's today may know, I am now a grandpa - Becs produced a lovely little Samuel David on Easter Day morning - 5lbs 11 oz - both well and now at home. If I had the wherewithal to post photos I'd show him off. Luckily, he's handsome like his father, no Follett nose to suffer with!
I will now be boring you all silly with my grandpa stories that I find great and you all think, 'Oh no, Fol's off again!'

Anyway, whilst away last week, what have you been up to Tick? Great consternation on Sin's board - I trust it wasn't something I said - but hey! we can still converse here at least. This is a harass free zone.

Anyone heard from Poll lately? Math? have you been in touch?

With hugs smiley - hugsmiley - hugsmiley - hugsmiley - hugsmiley - hugsmiley - hug to all from Grandpa Fol
