Rikii, I wasn't really including Wolves amongst the "also-rans" - I thought they were dead and buried. But maybe not.

Hi all, alas not much happening here.

I went to see my doctor again and he told me in his opinion I now have type 2 diabetes.So...as I haven't had any alcohol for a month now I really hadn't noticed just how many boring hours there actually are in an evening. The doc says that he hopes my diabollic can be treated by my diet alone. So I had another armfull of blood taken away again for the results to go to my newly appointed diabllic nurse, whom if Im still around I get the displeasure of meeting next week.(Meldrew, humbug,I'll show 'em grumpy)

Anything else?smiley - biggrin

Ah, here's a nice quiet spot.

No alcohol for a month, Rikii? No wonder you're getting delusions of reality.

I'm not feeling best pleased at the moment: I was hoping to have started work today delivering Kitesville Council's March newsletter, but they don't seem to have taken delivery of it yet. My aim was to have about 2,000 done by the end of the weekend, but it looks as if I won't be able to start until Monday. This is rather a bummer, as they've asked me to complete the delivery by 13 March - and I also have the Sandhurst Directory to deliver this month. There must be easier ways to make a subsistence - one could hardly call it a living.

Still, things could be worse. Has anyone been watching The Human Planet? In last night's program they had a guy who had to walk along a wire suspended over a raging river - the Mekong - just to be able to catch enough fish for his family's dinner, and some Tibetans whose walk to school involved a six day trek along a (not so) frozen river valley - icy and dicey. And poor old dad had to make the trek back home as well. Astounding. I really shouldn't get so grumpy when the children want a lift somewhere. smiley - biggrin

Bon weekend a tous.

Hi tickle, next Wednesday I've got an appointment to meet my new diabetic nurse, where Im expecting the law to be laid down,Mrs cut-out want to discuss my new diet(?)with hersmiley - sadface
But I also have an appointment with the nuclear science lab (at our new QE)where I've got to have a special carbon test to detect or not the bug which causes H pylori which can cause ulcers as I've had it befoe(nobody told me then or when)blood test are useless because the bug stays in the blood.
As for work? only fives days in total this month.
Still as the old labourite song says "things can only get better" smiley - smiley

Hi all,well...there isn't much happening here, our host Polly is PC lesssmiley - erm and our cyber world falls apart,So...if you are checking out this thread Polly get your rear in gear over heresmiley - smiley
I have had a couple of days work and I'm working for a day at my local Jaguar factory tomorrow and maybe a job in Cardiff on Tuesday.
Someone might have 7 weeks work for me when the schools close in the Summer,I've never been promised that much work since I've been self employed so Im crossing everything at the moment.
Im struggling to come to terms with this type 2 diabetes at the moment and I keep ending up with medical appointments, tea without sugar tastes rotten but I cant stand the sweetners either. No biscuits,no cake, sweets pop and 2 months without a beer, can anyone live like this?(mega Whinge)I have been trying to do half an hour a day on the exercise bike even though I seem to have lost 1/2 a stone I dont feel any benefit at the moment.
The Blue tits are starting to claim the nesting boxes in my garden but the garden is a bit messy at the moment,but... Im hoping the weather picks up and I can get sowing a few seeds.
This terrible affair in Japan is going to be a huge tragedy how will anyone ever work out how many people have been lost?
Have any of you heard anything from Polly,or any other trivia?smiley - smileysmiley - ok

Sounds grim, Rikii. Mind you, I found giving up sugar in tea remarkably easy. Until I was about 23, I used to take three spoons of it per cup, which amounted to a lot of sugar during the course of a day. I decided to give it up for reasons of economy and after about a week found I couldn't stand tea with sugar. However, I would find it much more difficult to give up some of the other things you mention.

Situation in Japan sounds even grimmer. I only heard about it when we got back from Heathrow, having put Grace II on a flight to Lima. As you can imagine, I was slightly disturbed by the reports of a tsunami alert for the entire Pacific rim - Lima airport is very close to the coast. In the event, they had scarcely a ripple, although there was a fair amount of traffic congestion in the vicinity on Friday evening on account of coast roads being closed.

Haven't heard anything of Polly for some time - I'll have to ask Mathos for an update.

Have a good week, all.

Hi Rikii,

Just had news of Polly. Apparently she was struck down with winter vomiting virus, but is better now and currently staying with a friend in Dorset. She posted a message at Sin's place and asked me to send you a smiley - hug. So consider yourself hugged.

I see Villa seem to be getting sucked into the relegation fight. At least Forest don't have to worry about that. Doesn't look like they'll have to worry about the play-offs, either. But Reading probably will.

Hi all.

Thank you, W4aT, for giving Rick such a lovely hug. smiley - disco

Yes, I am using a friend's computer - without a mouse. I make so many mistakes when mouseless.

Rick, pop in and see the old folk at Sin's site. You might even want to stay!

I was very ill for a week with the Norovirus. I became so dehydrated that I couldn't do a thing until I got some powders to replace the lost electrolytes. I'm still not right now. smiley - erm

Moving home in three weeks time. Nowhere yet to move to. smiley - yikes Must start the packing next week. I have been too weary to do anything.

Well, fancy the radio 4 MBs being closed. Whatever next!

Good question, Polly. Whatever next? How about joining us at the house of Sin, Rikii? We need someone to keep Stout and Lily under control.

Not yet, Rikii, but who knows? Hootoo is to be "sold off", so I suppose what becomes of it will depend on who 'buys' it. There was talk of a users' consortium taking it over, but I don't know if anything is likely to come of that. If you dig around you might be able to find out.

Hi Polly,Im glad you made it here.I see you mentioned that you are moving home in about three weeks,I hope you are moving out of choice.
I was sorry to hear you had been poorly again,Mathos did relay a message to me and I thank him for that, this board seems to have lost it's direct link I always seem to have to click on my conversations in the hootoo index lately.
I still have no idea if this thread will close too,I suspect the writing is on the wall regarding these threads, cut backs seem to mean cut offs.Even the have your say threads are being doctored beyond recognition.
For myself I have learned far more from the great folks that surface on these boards from time to time,I feel my grasp of our language has greatly benefitted from the quality imput that all of you have shared with me.I suppose you lot out there with all the cultured minds take your education for granted,me I never really had one.I mean there were no CSE's or the like for me when I finished learning my short term at school at about fourteen yoa.
Apart from some very basic maths I dont need to read much literature at work,so the only writing I have been doing is on these boards mainly with my ten minute pomes.
Still I do hope we can all keep in touch although I quite understand that many would rather remain anonymous.
If you cant afford a new pooter maybe you could look on ebay,I have bought loads of gear for work etc and out of about thity transactions I've only had one let down.
Anyway enough waffle from me.smiley - hugsmiley - chocsmiley - magic

Hello Rick.

Don't put yourself down, you silly thing! Your poems have been great. They have nothing to do with qualifications such as CSEs or GCEs. They are to do with the heart and emotions. And who are any of us to judge another? Friendship is about togetherness and understanding - not about one's voice, looks or learning. Over at Sin's place we just muddle along with our own little bits of inspiration (some of them so daft that you truly wouldn't believe it!!).

My little home has been sold. I am kind of gutted I guess. It was very old (18c), dark, tiny, and unusual. I had made it so homely. Now I have less than a month to find a roof over my head! What will be will be.

I'm staying with a friend until tomorrow or Saturday. He is in the study with a computer and I am in the snug with the spare computer . My head is aching. Time for bed soon methinks!

If you pop into Sin's place, you can keep in touch with any of us here via private mail on her site. It's all very simple. Don't imagine for a moment that we all have( to put it into your words) 'cultured minds'. smiley - doh

I will get my new computer soon. I just don't know what to get.

'Night 'Night dear Rick.

smiley - kiss

Rik!! Me ol' mate! Great to be with oyu again - and sorry I've not been around on here lately.

Now then. We want your pomes on Sin's place 'cos the stuff we're turning out is trash and we need a bi' o' kulcher like wot you rite. Rite?

Anyway, get over there and join us, it would make the team complete - even Toots puts her head around the corner occasionally. 'Course Poll has pooter probs, don't you Poll - not so much problems as a lack of, but I'm sure she'll be with us as much as she can.

Hope you have been able to find some gainful employment recently although I know it's hard for everyone lately - Ok for me to talk, I have pensions and now, from June, the state want to give me some! just in time, cos MOH retires in August - wayhay! At last we can go on hols when the plebs aren't about!

Hope you can come over to Sin's place - we'd love to see you.

Fol - here's some hugs for you and some kisses for Poll - OK then, and some hugs for Tick and soem kisses for Toots - who else is there?

Hi to everyone, and a big hug to you Polly, so sorry you have been ill. I owe you a PM as well, sorry, I aid I was the world's worst. I too have had 'puter problems at home, and at work they have really clamped down on private usage and 1/2 hour for lunch doesn't go very far, especially if you have to wait 10 mins for the use of the microwave.

Hope things are not too bad with your type 2 Rikki, I've been "it" for about three years now and with the tablets I forget all about it. Luckily I never did have a sweet tooth and the alcohol consumption is very moderate (especially since I got totally legless at a friend’s wedding about 15 years ago, so one glass for me and the body goes “that’s enough for you” and I feel very queasy.

Polly: I’m so sorry to hear that you have to move, I know how much you loved your place even with the dodgy neighbour.

Rikki: I can only repeat what the others have said; please come over and join your mates. You will complete the gang.

Hugs to everyone, and have a lovely weekend.

Toots.x

Hi!

Rick, were you indeed Cedric at one time???? Have you had a happy day today? I hope so. I went for a walk on the Kingston Lacy estate. The fields were hazy in the warm sunshine, and the air was full of birdsong.

I cooked a lovely supper for my friend and I - Icelandic cod with very creamy mashed potato, peas and carrots. The fish (from Waitrose) was delicious. smiley - smiley
