Could you call on me, elsewhere?
Rev Nick - dead man walking (mostly) Started conversation Jun 10, 2011
I just happened on Effers suggestion of 'Elders', and the first thoughts that come to mind are of a group that could prove helpful in the over-all operation of the community side of the site. Most days, I won't have time to interact on the site, but would like to find a niche somewhere
A quick generic e-mail to revnick at revnick dot ca, and we might discuss this a little. (?)

And a brief conversation about bannings and the like, that are NOT allowed under BBC operating methods could be had.

Hi Nick, I'm not that good with email, too hard for me to keep up. Can we discuss these things onsite? Effers is going to start a thread on the Elders thing, and there's that good one on moderation already

As long as we are under the BBC, I can't and won't discuss moderations and bannings here. As you may have inferred from so many threads over the months. It risks my presence.
I am following the moderation thread and posted (if it's the same one you refer to). I'm interested in the idea of "Elders" though. If any discussion has carried on?
In briefest, my idea would be someone (perhaps 10 to 15 persons of every stripe and ways) who have had 5 or more years of seeing what happens on-site. They would be a 'consultant' group more than anything else, no true authority, but a pool of experience and perhaps wisdom, that could help advise the Community staff at various levels. If you get such disparate personalities such as myself, Effers, Twigster, B'Elana, Amy the paperlady, ... A really broad spectrum of people.
Major software changes to the site, moderation or considerations, general "feel" of the community, ... A lot of things could have cooler minds discussing and offering considered opinions.
But once more, and an important thing (I think) no real power or authority. A pool of respected minds that can find a general consensus on any issue.

Effers started a thread in Ask: F19585?thread=8237060 It'd be good to see your ideas over there
Re the other one, you could try the h2g2 consortium googlegroups, but it may be a bit public too.

Having once ben a Scout, maybe 6 hours, I have mostly sworn off of Google groups. I already have many pokers in the kiln and something like 7 e-mail addresses active. Such groups swamp me. I'll try to stay with a thread or here around here. Cheers

What I can try to express in 3 or 4 sentences, Twigster can spell out very eloquently and in far more detail. Before I even end my 4 sentences. I have sent him a note, suggesting a sample A-page as to how he would see The Bear Pit.
Folks can maybe take it there, and from there?

I may have a dozen trains of thought going, and yet I never seem to get the right words out there. Or atleast not as full as I'd like. He has that skill, so maybe ... ?
It seems a simple solution in my mind's-eye to a lot of annoyance in the reduced community. Technically simple, and yet not (too) restrictive to them wot like that sort of thing

I think you were expressing thoughts just fine. That thread was very fast for a while and stuff was getting lost.

And that is a reason I do not get involved in some of the other threads as well, ... My abilities to express and be understood as well as how fast some move on. I dropped a seed and he has run with it, I'm curious where it might go?

So what happened with the Ace/PS thing? Just curious.

He was being spiteful by jumping into my ACE thread with Aly.
Would you enter a non-community thread initiated by someone who has asked you time and again to leave them alone?
Nick knows what he was doing.

I still think the original post bears merit. Conversations would run short in time, but some opinions and notes to compare might prove beneficial in both directions. Just a thought.
Key: Complain about this post
