I was having a bout of insomnia this morning and came across your poem on the front page. My first husband committed suicide 4 years ago so while it was a bit painful to read, I was so glad to read something 'familiar'. I remember feeling like that--how totally selfish the process of grief is, how uncontrollable it is, how your mind will pick up the smallest and most unimportant detail yet forget what month it is...I've read lots of more academic things about grief, but this may be the first time I've read something that made me feel as though what I experienced might be normal...anyway, I needed to say thank you for sharing that.
