Blackberry Cat , if one wishes to remain an individual in the midst of the teeming multitudes, one must make oneself grotesque Started conversation Nov 14, 2003
to bother you but I've come across an excellent guide entry I'd like to recommend for review. Only problem is the author hasn't posted for almost 4 years so is unlikely to complete it. The Flea Market seems the most appropriate place but it can't be submitted directly to there. What to do?
The entry is A486407 Infinity Plus 1 Cat(s)
Grateful for any advice you can offer .

Hiya, I think if you click 'submit for review' anyway it should get diverted to flea market where someone can pick it up and finish it..but you might want to check on that

Thanks creachy and St Serephina
Its a decent entry and just in need of a little finishing off perhaps so it seems a shame to waste the authors good work from her brief stay .

i have already posted to the <./>ace</.>'s home page directing anyone who might actually know the answer to come here and answer.
i did not want to confuse the matter by saying 'i think you need to...' etc.
so hopefully, someone will be along soon

What my suggestion would be is...
post a message to the authors page. If you get no response within a week (which is unlikely) then submit the entry to the flea market directly by clicking on the 'submit for review' option and selecting flea market.
Then go to the flea market and post an intention of taking over the article, following the guidelines on that page. (obviously as you have already notified the author you can ignore that bit)
Your article will need to credit the original author as co-author though.
But it does seem to be a great article, in need of a bit of work, but very worthwhile working on.
Darn - wish i had seen it first If you need any advice then give me a shout as i have done it personally and i am also a veterinary nurse

Sorry Mort to disagree slightly, but you don't have to submit the entry to FM if you want to work on it - just do the usual posting on that Researcher's space so they can see it if they ever return.
It will save the Editors the job of removing it again later.

so to recap, all Blackberry Cat need to do is:
1, post to the researchers space concerned requesting to take over the entry.
2, wait a reasonable time for a reply, i think someone said 2 weeks.
3, upon no reply, or a reply confirming their request, they can then copy and paste the entry to their own space and work on it themselves. unless the researcher replies of course and something else is agreed.
4, for common decency ensure that the original researcher is listed on the credits on the final entry
5, submit to peer review as normal.
i think this is right

Thanks one and all for your kind advice
I'll follow the steps you listed creachy
Mort I know next to nothing about cats in real life so if I take it over I'll be mainly checking spelling and grammar, maybe adding a picture - that sort of thing. If you like you can take it over instead or co-author (with you handling all the difficult technical bits ) or comment when it goes to peer review.
Thanks again all
