Time Out
Snailrind Posted May 4, 2006
Well, there's the recent spate of people getting their posts yikesed and moderated for saying innocuous things, which bizarrely started just after the introduction of the profanity filter, which, though a good idea in principle, has itself been filtering out some non-profane words, thus interfering with normal discourse.
There's also the recent overabundance of paranoia about copyright which is preventing extended quoting from even very old literary works, as seen on the Poetry Thread.
Probably most irritating is the fact that, as time goes on, more people join the site without it having extra funding to run, and pages frequently take ages to load, if they load at all.
Whether any of that has anything to do with Jabberwock, I've no idea.

Hmmm...I wasn't aware of that to be honest...But then I haven't really been scouring the threads....

He worked alone and few could know
When Jabbers ceased to be
But he's not talking poetry. And oh !
The difference to me
And thou hast slain the Jabberwock

What's worrying me is the Song Line Thread - sometimes it's just been Jabs and me smooching along to the old refrains.
I'm going to have to play with myself now
Hope you're still reading even if you're not participating

Playing with yourself? Tsk, tsk. This could be considered profane. Please ensure you are not quoting poetry at the same time.

I haven't been around for a few days, and now I find that Jabberwock is gone! OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!
What's going on here????
I would've thought that our poetry conversations were acceptable, since we did cite the authors and gave the titles of the poems we used.
As for the song lyric conversations, well, it did seem occasionally that Jab and Lady C. had some intense moments; I don't see where it bothered me, as I continually inserted myself into such conversations on a regular basis! (Can I say that, 'inserted myself'?)
Is this a filter problem, or a prude problem? Hmmm, maybe Hootoo should check out the LiveJournal scene, and see what goes on there. The majority of the users are much younger than most of us, and the profanity is as thick as peanut butter on celery! (Can I say 'peanut butter'?!??
Come back, Jab! Can't lose you to frustration, when there are so many of us who love you! (Platonically, of course!)

Several researchers have migrated, ar least partly, to LJ from hootoo in protest at the current operational problems and the unnecessary new restrictions here. JEllen, Snailrind, Ivan, Terri and Yoda and others. I don't fancy it myself - not yet, anyway.

Thank you, Jab. Knew I could rely on you.
I can't understand why there are so many operational problems. What's wrong with the system. (No need to answer that one )

Weren't they saying they has server space problems and not enough funding for more?
Hey, Jab: were you checking out LJ during your absence, then?

I did check it out, Snails, but it didn't appeal, really. I'm not that interested in having a blog, and the culture on LJ seemed a bit too American Teen for me.

PS:
The renewed control-freakery and the lack of funds for an adequate bandwith (=cuts) on hootoo are very clear results from the New Labour Government attack on the Beeb post-Kelly and post-Hutton. That's where the ultimate blame lies.
